But enough about the house... ...with the coming of fall, family and friends in Canada, U.S. and Europe find themselves thinking of the long, cold winter approaching. It's not just the ice and snow to cope with, but the enormous heating bills, and not being able to enjoy the outdoors. Long-term rental is also available plus electricity (you pay), you get satellite cable TV, unlimited bandwidth Wi-Fi internet, and hot water showers. But not you...living in Panama you don't ever have a heating bill and you will never see snow. The great outdoors will be your playground all year round here in the Los Santos province on the Azuero Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean. And that includes being able to go to the beach anytime you want. Uverito Beach stretches 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) where most of the time all you'll see is an occasional beach walker or jogger out for their exercise. Most of the long beach has single family vacation homes and is populated by a good mix of expats and locals. The house is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the city of Las Tablas, and the city of Chitre is about 30 minutes to the north. This gives you access to shopping, healthcare, restaurants, and entertainment. Las Tablas is the capital of the Panamanian province of Los Santos, with a population of about 9,000. Las Tablas is a recognized national center of Panamanian folk: art, music, gastronomy, architecture, culture and literature. It is known for a lively yearly Carnival, in which the city splits into two competing factions, "Calle Arriba" (Uptown, literally "Street Above") and "Calle Abajo" (Downtown / Street Below), both centered on two streets of the same name. Each faction will have a carnival queen, a parade, fireworks, music, a decorated plaza, food stands, presentations, concerts, games, contests, etc., all attempting to overpower the other faction's efforts. The drive from the beach winds past farmland dotted with cattle and horses. If you feel like getting out on the water, you can go to the Port of Mensabe, a five minute drive around the corner from the house. Fishing is a major pastime and a number of fishing pangas can be contacted to go fishing. And if you feel like kicking back, local restaurants in rustic eateries serve fried fish and ceviche for a few dollars each. Add an ice-cold beer for a buck and you can't beat it. Uverito Beach is the go-to beach for families on weekends, holidays, and vacations, so it can be loud and crowded at times. But during the week the wide, flat, dark-sand beach is empty and it's a nice place to hang out with friends and family. The house is across the street from the beach with grassy access, a large covered patio/outdoor dining area, and hammock/rocking chairs to relax. The best time to reserve your stay...any time! So this winter, instead of dreading the weather, enjoy the coastline at Uverito Beach, relaxing on the beach, checking out Las Tablas, or heading out on the water.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

OK for a day or two
The view from the porch was nice enough but the actual apartment was cramped and dingy. There are a few easy fixes that could be made: Center the bed in the room and provide a small table on both sides and a couple of lamps. Put a decent lamp in the living room. If you are going to stay here you need a car. There are no grocery stores nearby and the restaurant within walking distance is OK but very expensive for what you get.

Hi Laurie, thanks for your review. We will evaluate your recommendations. We have had several guests stay in the apartment for months at a time without the need for a vehicle. There is a minivan bus and taxi services in the area that provide transportation to grocery stores and restaurants. Unfortunately, you should have communicated with us to help coordinate the need for transportation if you were having issues.

Pleasant Stay
I couldn't have been happier with the house. Yes it is a small apartment, but I knew that going in. Everything worked well and the view of the ocean was worth every penny. Walter is "the best" host I have ever met. He helped me with everything from the apartment to places to go and restaurants. He also helped me with my next stop and it isn't even his. He even found out when Gringo Night was at the local bar. I would rent from Walter again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Walter.

Well equipped apartment in a quiet area
This apartment isn't big, but with the large covered deck outside adding to the living space, it's very comfortable. The beach is directly across the road, and is almost always empty. At low tide it's possible to walk a long way down the beach in both directions. The apartment has everything you need for dishes, utensils, towels, sheets etc, and has a washer and dryer. It's about 15 minutes in to town, and there's nowhere closer to buy groceries, etc, but there is a little shuttle that goes back and forth many times a day, and it's very inexpensive. There are a number of small restaurants within walking distance. Walter the owner was always available immediately to answer any questions, or solve any issues that may arise. For any stay longer than a week or so I believe that more than two people would probably find the apartment a bit cramped, but for a single or a couple, it's perfect.

Greatest stay ever in the history of my vacationing
First things first, the view is amazing and comforting. I mean what more can you ask for waking up to a view of the mid sea when the tide is low everything is calm and still with the birds singing and chirping. Everyday was a different experience and the people of the area a extra friendly and serviceable. The local restaurants prices to dine are very reasonable based on budget and great sight seeing. Overall the stay was amazing and I'm looking forward on returning before the end of 2019.

Had a BLAST!
We stayed here for a couple of weeks while waiting for our place in Boquete to be ready. We had a great time, and made a few friends along the way. Walter is a great host and very gracious. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need, and sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee, looking at the ocean was a pleasure! When we come back to visit our fiends, we'll book here again.

About the neighbourhood
Uverito Beach is the most popular beach in the area around Las Tablas, even though it is located within the nearby town of Pedasi. The beach has some basic infrastructure for visitors. It is accessible by newly paved roads from Santo Domingo and from Las Tablas (about a 10 minute drive from each one). There are a couple of popular restaurants that open on weekends and double as open air dance floors. Besides the beach there is a public area for picnics, beach volleyball court, and parking spaces. There are modest private residences, mostly owned by locals, on most of the beachfront. Panama has numerous festivals with dancing, drinking, live music, and plenty of socializing. When you visit the Azuero Peninsula you will be amazed.
Getting around
Having a car is the ideal way to explore the Azuero Peninsula, but not absolutely necessary. You can get to/from Las Tablas on a mini-van that services the beach. You can also catch a taxi to Las Tablas to catch a bus from there to other parts of the Azuero Peninsula or Panama.
