Tucked away in historically rich 1066 country it is ideally located for walking, horse riding, cycling and painting. There is a strong arts and crafts movement locally and there are plenty of good pubs that serve excellent food within easy reach. For nature lovers there is an abundance of local bird life and the nearby marshes and levels on the way to the beach at Pevensey (15 minutes by car). 5 mins from the South Downs National Park it is within easy reach of Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Brighton, Ashdown (Pooh Bear) Forest and Forest Row Country Park. There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, a windmill, Herstmonceux Castle and Science Centre. Other nearby attractions include the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, Michelham Priory, the White Horse at Alfriston and Long Man at Wilmington. It's on a tiny little lane with trees meeting over the road in places. There are lots of public footpaths including one that goes through next door's land and down through fields to the woods. Treetops is an ideal retreat or lovenest - it's wonderful space for getting away from it all and right into the countryside; to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature; to heal, create music or art or to study. It's very much a cosy country property rather than a stylish hotel setting but it's nicely and very comfortably furnished in rustic style. Horses clop along the lane outside and birdsong fills the air. There is a farmer along the lane who has equipment in use and large vehicles during the week sometimes so it's more reliably peaceful at weekends. There's a deck with a built-in barbecue and seating which you are welcome to use or share should the owner be there at the time of your visit and a campfire area with logs to sit on. It's possible to have the fridge/freezer stocked with a variety of locally sourced food on request including meat from the farm shop and wonderful cheeses and vegetables. Similarly should you require a bottle of chilled champagne on arrival this can be arranged with the owner. Treetops is perfect for two people but can accommodate 4 - there are two single mattresses made up like bunks in the eaves which are great for kids and have also occasionally been used for extra adult guests - however, be warned, they're very comfy full sized singles but there's not a lot of headroom so they're more suited to smaller visitors. The garden is ideal for kids, with a brick-built Wendy house and a wooden climbing frame/swing/slide set and more swings and hammocks from the trees, including one suitable for adults from the major oak in the front garden. There's a small pond protected by mesh. A high chair can be provided on request. There are no stair gates so it's not suitable for toddlers. There is a £10 per head per night charge to use the extra beds. The owner is a music teacher and Reiki practitioner who lives in the main house with one child. Music (piano, guitar, ukulele, singing & theory) lessons can be arranged onsite as well as art and crafts activities in the owner's spacious art/healing studio. If you would like to have an art/music holiday please inquire for further details. Although smoking is not allowed inside, it is permitted on the balcony. Treetops has just been redecorated and carpeted so it's slightly different to the photos - new photos to come ASAP - it's similar but nicer and cosier now :) More

Spent two nights in this delightful first floor studio with wonderful country views over rolling hills. Small but useful downstairs kitchen and a shower room and toilet. Walking distance to two pubs, fish & chips, very good Indian restaurant and a bakery. The only noise...More

A place with its own quirky character. We did not see the place at its best, ie in the middle of winter after and during lots of heavy rain! The local lanes were waterlogged and muddy - in other seasons they will be beautiful. Overall,...More

Interaction with guests
I do my best to be here to welcome guests (if I can't I leave a key and come and say hello when I return). I live next door so guests are totally private and separate but I am usually on hand to help if needed. My aim is to be available but not intrusive; we've made a lot of friends through offering holidays but only if people have actively approached us. You will probably see us in the garden from time to time. Should anything go wrong I always have my phone and even if we are out or away we have local friends who can help if needed.

About the neighbourhood
There is fishing at the local trout farm, golf, tennis, a windmill, Herstmonceux Castle and a Science Centre. Other nearby attractions include the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park, Michelham Priory, the White Horse at Alfriston and Long Man at Wilmington.
Getting around
A car is recommended, however, the nearest train station is Polegate, which is about 15 mins by taxi and costs about £15. You can get a number 98 bus from there to the village which I am told by Google takes about half an hour. It's about 15 mins walk from the village to here.
