The house is fully equipped and offers everything you need to enjoy a complete vacation experience. Comfortable beds, well-kept kitchen and laundry appliances, privacy and security. It is located inside a 29 acre private farm with a beautiful view of the Arenal Volcano and its 85,000 m2 lake. Besides this impressive scenery, the villa has an exclusive access trail to the lake where you can enjoy water activities such as kayaking (kayaks available for FREE), swimming, fishing or just appreciate the fresh water of this amazing lake. We recommend the private area for picnics or any other family activities. For those who are passionate for the outdoors, there is also enough room to walk / run around the property trails.

Bird Lovers paradise
Casa Malecu was a little difficult to find because the Maverick restaurant has closed and is no longer a useful landmark.The house has a beautiful view, a beautiful porch. Pedro the caretaker and his wife were extra nice and helpfull. We enjoyed the kayaks. You do have to strap them to a cart and pull them up and down the hill but it is not that tough. We brought our 88 year old parents to celebrate mom's birthday and the house was very easy for them to use. Just one step in the whole house. The lake is about 300 meters away down a gravel road with a fairly steep incline. It was not suitable to bring them to the water there. Boat launch ramp in the last 100 feet is very steep, however Pedro was kind enough to tell us where the bathing beach in the town was and we were able to get them to the water there. The kitchen is well equipped. The super market in Nuevo Arenal is a quick drive and is well stocked with everything,There is also a butcher close by. You really need a car to get into town. Watching the birds here you never have to leave the porch, we saw flocks of Toucans, Toucanets, Oropendolas, Hawks, and small song birds to numerous to list at least 25 species per day. All in all we will probably return as it was a great experience. The house is in a perfect location for peace and privacy.

Beautiful and isolated.
We enjoyed our 5 night stay here but were not prepared for how isolated it is.
While absolutely a bird watchers paradise - we saw parakeets, toucans, a pheasant, hummingbirds and much more, all from the gorgeous front porch - it was less than ideal for our family with 3 school aged boys. While Pedro the caretaker and the folks in nearby Nuevo Arenal were all very kind, they did not speak English and we speak no Spanish. We could not find the bathing beach for the kids to swim and could not have managed getting more than one kayak down if we even found the boat launch. The drive to La Fortuna where activities are located, is at least an hour drive despite the short distance because of the windy roads - which are also not fun if anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness.
That being said, if you do want to get away from it all, and have a car, this is a lovely property on beautiful grounds with a truly inspiring view. It was clean, well stocked with dishes, good refrigerator and hot water and groceries and gas were easy to get in Nuevo Arenal and no more expensive than elsewhere. The wifi was good enough for email, but not for internet use to research activities, google maps downloads or streaming. Cell coverage was good.

Preciosa finca cerca del lago, ideal para una vacacion familiar.
La casa muy bonita y con buen mantenimiento. Los jardines bien cuidados. Buenos detalles de decoracion y la cocina bien equipada. El Sr. pedro quien nos recibio MUY atento y pendiente de todo. Gracias Pedro. Importante checar con el dueño que el WI FI este funcionando como se debe, sobretodo si tienen la necesidad de trabajar mientras vacacionan. El pueblito de Nuevo Arenal esta cerca ( en auto 10 min ) y ahi se encuentran los basicos.necesarios. Hay que saber que las aguas termales de La Fortuna si quedan a 1 hora de carretera. Precioso lugar, maravillosa vista.

Driving Direction (Coming from Cañas Town): Follow route 142, after approximately 23 km you are going to pass through a small town called Tilarán. Continue on route 142, approximately 16.5-17 km after passing Tilarán you will pass through a really small town called Rio Piedras. Continue on route 142 and 3.9 km after you will pass through El Aguacate small town. If you follow route 142 you are going to go over a small bridge the crosses The Aguacate River, from that bridge it is approximately 800 meter. The gated community entrance is going to be on your right hand. If you see a restaurant called Maverick or Hotel La Rana to your right that means that you already missed the gated community entrance. The gated community entrance is between kilometer 44 and 45. When you are driving Route 142, your will see hidden in the grass to your right side some yellow concrete kilometer marks. There will be one for each kilometer. So, near the bridge over The Aguacate river you will see the yellow mark for kilometer 44, drive slowly approximately 500 meters and you will see the gated community entrance.
Driving Direction (Coming from La Fortuna): Follow route 142, after approximately 46.2 km from La Fortuna you are going to pass through a town called Nuevo Arenal. Continue on route 142, approximately 4.8-5 km you are going to see the gated community entrance on your left hand. You are going to pass on your left side Hotel La Rana, continue and you will see Maverick Restaurant also on your left hand. From Maverick drive 300 meters and you will see the gated community entrance. The gated community entrance is between kilometer 44 and 45. So Near Hotel La Rana you will see the yellow concrete mark for kilometer 45, drive approximately 500 meters from there and you will find Casa Malecu’s gated community entrance.
