We stayed here for a long weekend. The location was good as it was in easy reach to Alnwick and beaches. The downside was we didn’t realise it was above a garage and the ceilings were all very low, we kept bumping our heads. The...More

About the neighbourhood
Longhoughton is a coastal village a few minutes drive from the ancient market town of Alnwick. The villages of Boulmer, Lesbury and Alnmouth are also all within a couple of miles. We are right on Cycle Route 1, the coastal driving route and with fabulous sandy bays on our doorstep. The village is a working village with popular school and community centre. There is a Hairdressers, Co-Op supermarket, Church and Doctors Surgery. Just opposite Birdsong Lodge is a lane and a lovely walk up to Longhoughton old Quarry, a flooded quarry which is serene and beautiful especially in the spring time.
Walking out of our driveway, turn left at the top and left again...one mile down to Howdimont Sands and Sugar Sands Bay. Arguably the best of the beaches
Getting around
The bus route that runs through the village takes you into Alnwick, or up to Seahouses via Craster. Cycle route 1 quite literally is on our doorstep.

How to get there
Airport: Newcastle INternational: 40.0 km
Railway: Alnmouth for ALnwick: 3.0 km
Ferry: Newcastle / North Shields: 30.0 km
Our address is 22 North End, Longhoughton NE66 3AG.

As you enter the village from Alnwick you will see the church on your left. Just after the church there is a small road to the right called Crowlea Road and signposted 'Low Steads Farm'. Stay on the main village road but slow down - we are the first driveway on the right just after Crowlea Road (but don't go down Crowlea!)

If you are coming from the south please be mindful that the last major service station is at Washington south of Newcastle. After this there is NOTHING until you reach Alnwick so please make sure you refuel / fill up the coffee cups / visit the ladies etc!! After Newcastle despite it being the A1 there are still a number of sections that are single carriageway. There are countless accidents on these stretc...
