The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry is a suspenseful novel which takes place in Salem. The author's web site www.lacereader.com even has a walking tour of the sites mentioned in the novel.
Native son Nathaniel Hawthorne was so ashamed over his family's role in the Salem Witch Trials that he changed the spelling (from Hathorne) of his last name. You can see the Custom House featured in the preface of the Scarlett Letter. You can visit and tour the House of Seven Gables, where Hawthorne's novel of the same name was set.
