Asheville has one professional sports team, the Asheville Tourists, a Class A minor league baseball team in the South Atlantic League. The UNC-Asheville Bulldogs are also a major draw for area residents. The men's basketball team is especially popular. Check the school web page's athletics section for teams and schedules.
If you want to thrash in Ashe...ville, head to the Food Lion Skate park. First-time visitors will need to fill out and sign a waiver, releasing the skate park of all liability. Everyone is required to wear protective gear including a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads. A fee is charged, with the amount depending on whether you are a resident of the city or not. Annual passes are available, and if you don't have your safety equipment with you, you can rent some at the facility.
There are over 35 parks in Asheville. The Asheville Parks and Recreation has a list of all of them, highlighting their various features. Aston Park, located near downtown, has twelve lighted clay tennis courts. Two swimming pools are operated by the parks department, Recreation Park pool and the Malvern Hills and Walton Street pools. A fee is required for entrance to the pools. Baseball fields are located in a number of places around the city.
