Just a 15 minute taxi ride (£5) north of Hammamet is the town of Nabuel, where on Friday they have a great market where you can pick up a wide array of souvenirs. The town is known for it's pottery so there's loads and loads of choice - all at fantastic prices (large salad bowls for £2!). The sellers aren't too hassling and enjoy a haggle - so be prepared. All in all a great little trip and well worth the drive as the prices are much lower.

The Medina in Nabuel is much more spacious than many other Tunisian Medina/ Soukts. Nabuel streets appear much cleaner also so altogether a much more pleasurable experience than say Hammamet or Houmt Soukt on the isle of Djerba.

From Hamamet North the taxi should be agreed at 6-7 dinar ( about £3) and tip 1 - 2 dinar. Ignore what the meter reads after agreeing the price before the journey.

It is possible to secure the services of a taxi driver for around 20 dinar per hour (about £8). It is very handy to have an Arab escort with local knowledge.
