The cave is located amongst a small range of limestone mountains. Above the Naihehe caves is the fortress of Korovusolo, the subject of a rebellion by the Qalimari people. There are several other fortresses in the area which have remained in obscurity for quite a while. The Qalimari people were finally defeated and routed by the Colonial Native Constabulary in 1876. The principal chief of the Qalimare, chief Mudu was tried and executed at Sigatoka after the fall of Korovusolo.
