Tripoli is the capital of the prefecture of Arcadia, situated in the central part of Peloponnese at an altitude of 650 m and 165 km far from Athens. Created near the ruins of the ancient cities Pallantion, Mantinia and Tegea, Tripoli played a leading role in the Greek war of Independance in 1821 and now is a modern city of 30,000 inhabitants with nice parks, squares and countries and some beautiful neoclassical buildings. Tripoli is the seat of Peloponnese University.
