The Museum of Music is a collection of documents, art works, sound recordings, and probably most importantly more than a thousand musical instruments representing musical traditions, both elite and popular, of Europe, Asia, and Africa, and spanning some five centuries. The highlight of the collection is arguably a piano that was owned by Franz Liszt. The museum also hosts events, including a number of recitals held each month.
The museum is housed in the unusual setting of the Alto dos Moinhos metro station.
Opening times are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. except Sundays, Mondays, 1 January, 1 May, and 25 December.
