If you are travelling to Birmingham with children, rest easy. They will not drive you crazy insisting there’s “nothing to do”. Be sure to visit the city’s parks and waterways. Children will enjoy the water taxi rides; Birmingham has a more extensive network of canals than Venice.

Once the kids tire of the free stuff, you might choose to pay for some entertainment. In that case, check out Millennium Point, a relatively new addition to Birmingham’s tourist attractions. Here, you can make science and technology fun and interesting. Sure, there’s an IMAX theatre to entertain the kiddos, but also Thinktank, a museum of discover and science. Here, kids can visit Kids’ City, where they can dress up, role play and even enjoy a fun water feature.

If your kids are fans of the Willie Wonka story – and whose are not – they will want to visit Cadbury World, the headquarters for Cadbury chocolates. Here, you can ride through a “chocolate wonderland”, get the chance to taste liquid chocolate and visit “purple planet”, a magical area where it might rain chocolate, or you will be chasing a famous Cadbury egg. Be sure to call ahead before visiting Cadbury – they get a lot of school tours and your kids would likely be disappointed if you were turned away at the entrance.
