The most important phrases to use in St. Kitts and Nevis are: "Good morning", "Good afternoon and "Good night". Outside of your hotel, always use one of these polite greetings with everyone you talk to; do not address a person that you don't know with "Hi", "Hello" or no greeting at all, that is not considered to be polite.

Everyone on the two islands speaks English, but local people who don't usually interact with tourists may sometimes be hard to understand, because their accent is strong and their grammar may be different from what you are used to. (Some of them may even find what you are saying a bit hard to understand too.) St. Kitts and Nevis people in general are often a little shy towards strangers, but they are very kind and nice once they get used to you. Remember "Good morning", "please" and "thank you". Your politeness will be very much appreciated.
