We traveled to Wainwright to attend a large event, and had booked into a hotel in a neighbouring community because of no vacancy in Wainwright. A few days prior to our trip we discover information about this Guest House, and cancelled our hotels to stay here and rent the entire house with 8 of our other friends. The House can be rented in it's entirety, or you can rent individual mostly-self-contained suites (share the kitchen and entry). Situated in the interior of the Town of Wainwright, the property is still somewhat removed from other houses as it is setback from the street along a driveway surrounded by trees, acreage style. There appears to be a full service RV park next to the site. There is abundant parking for 5+ vehicles (non-street, site only). As mentioned, we had 10 people in our group. The main entrance is on the second floor, and the front door opens onto a large porchway, and beautiful arched interior wooden doors. It's difficult to describe the awe you may feel as you first open the interior arched doors to the home (lots of oos, ahhs, and wows), with abundant African decor and wooden floors and ceilings. A large stone fireplace (burns wood - provided- with gas start) anchors the living room, with a massive open wood counter kitchen/entertainment area with gas stove and sink on the other side. Easy access to an abundant supply of available cutlery/plates/glasses. A separate sink/dishwasher area is behind the kitchen, with a lazy butler-type window to move dirty dishes. A microwave/toaster/large refrigerator with ice maker is provided, water cooler with distilled water. A pantry stocked with many items for use is beside the refrigerator. A separate dining area with seating for 10 (?) is to the side of the kitchen. Keurig coffee maker and drip coffee maker is in the dining room (Keurig pods and ground coffee provided), many wine glasses available. The main floor has 1 bedroom (which I believe is only available if you rent the entire house), and a separate full bathroom. A curved wooden staircase will bring you to the upstairs and the Bridal Suite, with a separate large Vanity area (obviously could manage an entire wedding party!). Two doors provide access to the Bridal suite, which includes a separate shower, separate jacuzzi bathtub, keurig coffee maker, and bed- an absolutely incredible room. The downstairs basement has three suites, VERY large, with separate siting areas with sofas, two flatscreen tvs, mini fridges, keurig coffee makers, large full bathrooms, in each. A separate 1/2 bath is in the downstairs as well. To the side of the suites is the gym with free weights and machines. The downstairs has a walk out door from one of the suites, as well as from the gym, to the backyard. There is a newer propane BBQ (worked well), and patio furniture on the main part of the wrap-around patio (access off of the kitchen/living room), with stairs down to a lower patio with an outdoor jacuzzi tub (8 person?).
Things to know- the Guest Lodge is almost completely self contained and inclusive (most items such as oil, coffee, jam, pots and pans, cleaning products, etc. onsite and for your use); there are abundant towels; beds and pillows are very comfortable; shampoo and soap and hairdryers are provided; there is a dishwasher with tabs; there is no laundry but a laundromat is close by; when checking out you will need to have dishes cleaned, garbage removed to curb, and bedding stripped.
Things to consider- there are many beautiful African decorations, including animal hide rugs, that could be damaged if guests are not vigilant in ensuring their care; this is in a residential area with owners living in the neighbouring house and an RV park next to it (self impose a quiet time and be considerate).
Our stay at the Guest Lodge was likely my favorite short-term domestic travel experience. It truly is a unique property and experience, one I would liken to ski lodges but on an entirely different scale because of the size of the individual suites and the African decor. The owners are very accommodating and attentive, obviously wanting renters to be happy. If given the opportunity you should stay here- you will not be disappointed, and I'm sure you will have stories and photos to share for many years to come!
