“Wonderful place to stay - quirky, cute, original and picturesque”
Reviewed 4 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We stayed at the Tower for one night in late September and wish we could've stayed for longer! The views from the rooftop are incredible - by day you can enjoy the expanse of rural France in all its glory with a glass of wine and at night it is the perfect place to sit back and watch the incredible starry skies in these parts, with the occassional meteor shower. The tower is wonderfully clean and quirky in its roundness, with its ever winding staircase revealing another delightful part of the accommodation. Its self-sufficient with all the self-catering amenities, though you won't need it as the cute little town of Gensac is crawling distance with a couple of lovely rustic eateries. I can't recommend it highly enough - its a breath of fresh air and great for anyone who enjoy staying somewhere a bit different. The lovely hosts provide little bits for your breakfast as a lovely gesture, and Hobo the dog is always happy to see you and make you feel like family. We were sad to leave and will definitely be back to stay.

“Breath-Takingly Stunning Tower in a Quiet, Postcard-Worthy Counrty Town”

I was excited to visit Gensac and stay in the tower, but the pictures really didn't do it justice. It exceeded my already high expectations! The tower had a kitchen fully-stocked with all the equipment you need to prepare your meals. You get the old-world charm and (let's face it) cool experience of lodging in a stone tower, while still having access to an oven with rotisserie capabilities, a dishwasher, a nice shower, and a comfortable bed. Plus, I had milk, juice, coffee, tea, preserves, and even granola waiting for me when I arrived. To top it off, the view from the top of the tower was gorgeous. I highly recommend spending a sunset or two there.

English-speaking Mark and Fiona were friendly and hospitable, and they were a great help in pointing me in the right direction to see the sights, explore, dine, and get the most out of my vacation. Plus, you'll love Hobo, the adorable lab.

The town of Gensac was wonderful, including a great bakery and butcher, as well as a small supermarket that had everything you could need. The two restaurants in town were delicious as well. Plus, all of this is within a 5-minute walk without it seeming so from the tower. I also enjoyed the distant ringing of the bells from the clock tower in the middle of town and the church.

Plus, if you like wine and food, the Medieval town of St. Emilion is less than half hour away by car. As both a wine manager and culinary arts instructor, I highly recommend it.

Thanks Mark and Fiona! If I ever get married I know where I'm honeymooning!

Staying in the tower at Gensac was a once in a lifetime experience. The novelty of the tower with its four levels (including rooftop balcony) was so different to the usual box room. The beautiful surroundings are awesome and the quaint village of Gensac offers everything needed. Mark and Fiona were also excellent hosts.

“Blown away!”

This former windmill is a fantastically unique place to stay and is very highly recommended. It has been tastefully and carefully restored throughout, including an excellent (fully stocked) kitchen.

Fiona and Mark were lovely and very welcoming hosts. Thoughtful touches included stocking the fridge with milk, OJ, fresh eggs and a whole heap of other staples like tea, coffee and even muesli. They've also put together a very comprehensive binder with lots of info about the local area including nearby services, restaurants and wineries. (Our favourite tips were Chez Sylvie and La Table Rouge; both meals to die for!)

Location was perfect; very secluded but just on the edge of Gensac, a lovely little town with a great set of shops (bakery, butcher and supermarket). Easy to get to from Bordeaux and a short drive to a range of different sights and activities, including the gorgeous town of Saint Emilion.

Would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway in the beautiful Bordeaux countryside, with a fun twist!

“We have had a great time at Gensac Tower!”
Reviewed 24 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This great residence is a former windmill and watchtower that is very romantically situated on a hill overlooking the astonishing surroundings of Gensac. On the inside it has been fully restored, keeping authentic details intact. Outside you can choose to sit either in your private garden or on top of the tower.

The living space is not very big, but very clean and comfortable. It has all facilities you need during your relaxing holiday, including a BBQ, dishwasher and Wifi. Fiona and Marc have been very helpful in advising the best places to visit and local wines to drink. We highly recommend this place and already look forward to visiting this great place again.
