Wonderful stay.

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Apr 2018via mobile
My husband and I stayed here for two nights while we were travelling by car through Jordan.

Hotel:
The hotel is beautifully decorated and very clean with a large lobby and lots of comfortable seating areas.

Our room was located in the 'Oasis' section in a lovely courtyard with a fountain outside. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a veranda which overlooked gardens.

We were located in a good area, so not far from the hotel restaurant, beach and entertainment area. The only negative point to that is that you can hear the evening entertainment from your room but I think it only went on until around 11pm.

Breakfast was of a very good quality and had a variety of options, cereals, breads, pastries, salads, continental breakfast, juices, eggs, omlettes, teas and coffee.

We didn't have enough time to enjoy all of the hotel amenities as we were visiting local areas of interest i.e Mount Nebo, although we did manage to catch some of the Hotel evening entertainment, namely a belly dancer, but that wasn't for too long so can't really comment on that.

Dead Sea (I only comment about this as it is part of the Movenpick Hotel).

The Movenpick Hotel have their own private Dead sea area (free for hotel residents) and it is accessible from the hotel, approximately 3/4 minute walk. There are some steps (but not too many) that you have to descend and not sure if there is another route down, if steps are difficult for you. You are also given towels so no need to take your hotel room towel.

Don't forget to stop and have a picture at the board which reads 'you are at the lowest point on earth!'.

I have to say, the Dead Sea (maybe in this particular part of Jordan) was not what I was expecting. Considering all the pictures I have seen showing beautiful blue waters and salt rocks everywhere, it appeared quite dull and didn't quite live up to my expectations.....it was a bit overcast when we went. Having said that, it was clear water and cold as you get it, but warmer underneath... there were rocks in the water and a stony beach which makes for uncomfortable feet, so I would recommend some type of slippers/beach shoes to prevent your feet from getting abrasions.

There are a couple of lifeguards who attend to you and initially help you into the sea carefully. Pay attention to their instructions, they know best. They also assist you (if you want) with the traditional mudding and the familiar newspaper pictures. I was there with my husband so we took care of each other and I had my book of Jordan so was happy to hold that whilst having my classic Dead sea picture taken.

All in all, a very nice stay. Would definitely visit again if we return with our teenage kids. :)

Tips: If you are only having bed and breakfast at Movenpick, there is a small shopping centre (Samarah Mall) approx. 5 minute walk from the hotel. If you leave the hotel, turn left and you will find it after a short distance. There are a few places to eat there for both lunch and evening meal. Take the escalator to the lower floor and a nice place to eat is Pastiche café. Very reasonable prices, good food and a view of the dead sea from their terrace. They also have a 'Rivers Return' pub but we didn't go there.

This is a lovely hotel, there are alot of steps on walk down to the dead sea, but it's worth it, quite an experience, you can smother yourself in mud and then sit back in the sea, it makes your skin really soft. The only thing I would recommend is some sort of fly repellent, they really bite by the sea and by the side of the pool.
Food is excellent, loved the Italian, not too expensive, but as always wine is. It was a very relaxing end to a very busy holiday, after being to Petra, which is really worth while.

We stayed for 2 nights during our tour of Jordan. This was our third Movenpick of the tour and I’d say it didn’t quite reach the same standard as the others. The resort is large and I liked the style of a Jordanian village. Our room was clean and comfortable and the grounds were nice to walk around. Swimming in the Dead Sea was a great experience although I would agree with other reviewers that you need to protect your feet as we both ended up with cuts. Insect repellent is also a must as we were both bitten a lot during our stay. Evening meals were nice. On the first night we ate at the Grill restaurant which was a little on the expensive side (around 130JD for two starters, two mains with sides and a bottle of wine). The food was good although the mushroom starter was a little on the small side (3 mushrooms) and the steak was very fatty. On the second night, we tried the Italian which was good. The buffet breakfast had a decent range although some of the hot items were lukewarm at best. Our first breakfast was very disappointing due to poor service. We felt invisible and had to repeatedly ask for tea/coffee. Service the following day was better.

    Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for explicit review posting your comments on TripAdvisor.

It goes without saying that I am delighted to read that you have enjoyed your stay at our resort and that you were satisfied with the hotel facilities and services provided by our employees.

in regards to the prices we have done a research and we found our prices aligned with the area; as at Movenpick we serve high quality of food and beverage that needs special treatment and transportation due to the weather of the area. also the labor cost of the Dead Sea is relatively high which is reflected on products and services.

I sincerely hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near future and assure you already in advance of our best care and attention to your comfort.

Good hotel with decent service and picturesque grounds, rooms were clean and spacious. It’s in a village layout which works well with restaurants all in a central area, nice large main pool with some other smaller pools. Small area for getting muddied up and a dip afterwards, but take protection for your feet as lots of pebbles. Only disappointment was breakfast which for a movenpick was poor and hot food was cold.

We booked based on the reputation of the hotel chain. Big mistake. It started off with security throwing a hissing fit over a bottle in our x-rayed luggage, strange as it may seem that someone touring Jordan might just have liquids in their luggage. Arrived to see a sign that the Village Restaurant complex would be closed “tomorrow”, no problem for us we were only staying one night, however, it was a problem as the sign had been put out the day before and not changed. We arrived at 2:30 pm, reception informed us that check-in time was 4 pm! No problem they said and handed us a “waiting card”, off we went to the pool area to get some food. This took an age to turn up and the restaurant insisted that we move to a smaller table directly in the sun, in order to “free up a larger table”, the restaurant was empty. Mass confusion reigned whenever we showed anyone our “waiting card”, “what is this they asked”. Food very expensive, beers very expensive, service, polite but snail-like.

Dead sea beach, covered in rocks, difficult access to the water, now I appreciate that the lake is rapidly drying up, but come on would it really kill you to put down some fine gravel and or sand?

So, to the evening, the Village was closed, (for a huge corporate do that went on noisily until almost midnight), “sir, where can we eat”? The response came back that is was either the 40-dollar buffet or bar snacks. Not much of a choice.

Next morning, we go down to the pool, the changing rooms were dirty, the pool filthy, the shallow end has a sand covered bottom which was riddled with detritus, cigarette butts, and bits of litter. Yuk. Out we get, time to have something to drink. Stuff arrived, no problem, time to pay; since we were leaving we paid cash, twenty minutes later, no change, thirty minutes later, no change. We ask what is going on, apparently, they had no change in the tills, more time passes. Eventually, a supervisor turns up, and without a word opens his wallet and produces the change.

In short a simply awful experience, however, keep this in mind, our experience is not indicative of other better managed Movenpick’s, moreover, there are plenty of other cheaper, cleaner, more friendly and better-managed hotels in that area.

    Choose one of them

Room tip: Pick the main building, corporate events can make staying near the village a very noisy proposition.

I had been to the Mövenpick Dead Sea some 12 years ago on a business trip and had promised myself that I would come back with my husband to this wonderful place, unique in the world. There may be more luxurious hotels on the Dead Sea (having tried the Kempinski I can vouch for that) but nevertheless the Mövenpick remains my « coup de coeur ». The way the hotel is built, like a village with a series of small courtyards with water fountains, the flowers everywhere, the pools and the access to the Dead Sea, everything is perfect. Food good or very good in the 3 restaurants we tried (Luigi’s, The Grill and the buffet in the main building). On top of that, Zara Spa, situated on the premises of the Mövenpick is an excellent spa. You can choose from an extensive list of treatments or simply pay (25 JD) to use the facilities. Anyway, you won’t regret it! The Dead Sea water flotation pool by itself is worth that much and you get to watch the sunset either from the infinity pool or from the jaccuzi pool, with the lights from Mou t of Olives, Jerusalem, and Jericho in the background. Who could ask for anything more!

Room tip: Ask for a garden view or if you can afford it, a sea view room
