Dropped in with a party of 7 on a busy Saturday night in middle of skis season. the place was very busy, but they went away and found us a table in an over flow dining room. (we had earlier tried to get in to another restaurant in the village, but had been told "good luck finding a table". We looked and couldn't so left, and won't go back to that place). In contrast, here at the Park, we were expecting a long wait, but they took our order at the counter, and within 15-20 minutes the food arrived. We had a mix of seafood and pizza dishes, all nicely presented and good quality. For the price, it is good value.

Room tip: We only dined there but an east-facing room would be best for a view of the mtn.

Loved the room and the staff. Nothing flash but everything was done well. The manager was very lovely Jayjay. She was super helpful. The rooms are really cost and great for a family of four, or a bunch of friends staying together.

When the Park first opened it settled itself as an upmarket backpackers but has since moved further upmarket. It offers nice rooms, a nice bar, decent food at a good price point.
The location is also perfect for a range of outdoor activities.
Staff are super friendly.
The TV in the room didn't have sky TV so I couldn't watch the Olympics, so I deducted a star for that.
Wifi is free for 500mb.

Park Hotel was friendly and welcoming and recently renovated. The staff were very friendly and professional and check-in was easy. The busy restaurant served reasonably nice food and there was a big fireplace, a view of the mountains, and a family atmosphere. It was nice and quiet overnight, and the bed was very comfortable and firm. There was a hairdryer and mini fridge but no ironing board. Realistically though if you're at Mt Ruapehu you probably don't need an ironing board.

We were there for a business stay. The free wifi was a bit slow at times but otherwise fine. The room had plenty of space and was comfortable, but there was nowhere to sit and use a computer (other than on your lap). In the room, everything was very clean and tidy, and the fittings were new, but not very fancy. The carpet finishings etc were a little bit rough.

Unfortunately, there is only one mirror, in the bathroom, and nowhere in there to plug in the hairdryer. So you have to use the hairdryer in the room, without the benefit of a mirror. I also thought it was a bit disappointing that there was no bath, at $130 a night.

My one major issue with this hotel was the heating. A large oil column heater is provided, which is far too much heat for the small space, even on the lowest setting. I woke up in the middle of the night way too hot. Obviously it's very cold at the mountain in winter, but I recommend heating the room up before you go to sleep and then turning it off overnight. Really, a thermostat system would be much better (and more cost-effective).

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback, it is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay.

We are glad to hear that you found your room to be nice and warm, it is great advice to turn off the heater overnight if you find it a bit too warm:) Also, for next time, there is an ironing board in the laundry room and you can borrow an iron from reception as needed.

Thanks again and we hope to see you back again in the future.

Stay here often. JJ the manager she is fantastic as are the other attentive staff. The refurbished rooms downstairs are small though very comfy. If you are after quiet I would suggest an upstairs room as the little ones running around upstairs can be noisy but hey, it was school holidays. To drive to Whakapapa ski area is only 10 min or so. Rooms are very warm and you certainly won't go cold. Spiral restaurant and cafe on premises and the coffee is good. Menu has changed over the years I have been coming here and breakfast is no longer buffet rather a continental made in the kitchen. Only thing I can fault really is a few more high chairs they could add to the restaurant rather than one but the warm fire and crayons and paper supplied for the little ones made up for it.

Room tip: Quieter room would be the upstairs loft rooms.
