I stayed in Fattoria Vecchia Quercia as part of a 2 week extended family holiday in July 2011. The Villa comfortably accomodated 10 of us (6 adults, 4 children). All photos and details provided on the website are an accurate reflection, and the views are even better when you're there. The Villa comprised of a main building on three levels and a separate ground floor annex with large a room / ensuite - which would be ideal for anyone wishing to avoid stairs. All rooms were decorated to a high standard, with nice features and very clean.
The Villla was superb, very private, with plenty of space around the pool and boasting panoramic views of surrounding Tuscan countryside.
The owner, Francesca, was so friendly and a constant source of helpful information..recommending restaurants, giving tips for the area and bringing us daily croissants! In fact, it was Francesca - and her parents, who live in the nearby farmhouse - that added to the holiday being so special, letting the children see the farm animals, pick vegetables and even teaching them to cook crispie cakes. They were so kind, but gave us complete privacy.
The villa itself is quite remote. This has its definite upsides with the peace and unspolit views, but as stated on the website - a car is essential. You need to drive along a bumpy track for a few minutes but then you are only a 5 minute drive from Poppi or 10 mins to Ponte Poppi (where there are more shops/restaurants). To walk to Poppi would take between 20-40 minutes depending on your pace and how hot it is. Walking to Ponte Poppi is not so practical. There are a couple of big supermarkets within a 10 minute drive and it is recommended to stock up while there, as it is not so convenient to nip out for supplies on foot and some days we found the villa so relaxing that we didnt really want to go anywhere.
Poppi itself is very pretty and we found some nice restaurants. There did seem to be some challenge finding somewhere open on a Monday and Dinner seems to be a more popular meal than lunch in Poppi, with everywhere open in the evenings. You should also take advantage of the optional service to have a chef cook for you at the villa - we did it twice, and it was excellent both times.
We did take day trips to Arezzo, Florence, Anghiari, Chianti, Siena - all well worth visiting, although the last 2 were easily 2 hours each way.
I would thoroughly recommend this property and the surrounding area without question. Everybody had a fantastic time and we'd definitely go back
