Kuting Reef
Reviewed 22 March 2017 via mobile

You need to give Kuting Reef Management credit for trying to spice-up the cultural scene (that doesn't otherwise exist) in the Municipality of Macrohon, So. Leyte. Here, the only entertainment is do it yourself. That's right, the dreaded Kareoke!

So this reviewer wants to encourage Kuting Reef, while giving a useful and realistic review for the paying potential visitor. Look at this review from the perspective of one already committed to Padre Burgos for the fantastic scuba diving, and looking for a touch of cuisine and entertainment in the area.

From this perspective, Kuting Reef saves the day. There is no other entertainment offered within 20km of Padre Burgos (from Malitbog to Macrohon). So a new act each week for Fridays and Saturdays is very welcome. This reviewer has attended two nights and has really enjoyed the evening.

Kuting Reef is a beautiful 4-Star Resort, seemingly mostly empty. It can equally accommodate large business groups, private functions or romantic couples in a world class seaside renvionment. The site measures up to Bohol or Mactan resorts. But it's in the middle of nowhere.

Anyway, great facility, quite good one-man entertainment; but a lack of clientele needed to make it an "evening".

The food menu is extensive, reasonably priced for a Resort, with most items claimed to be available. But it seems to be hit and miss on quality. Pizza is with sweet Filipino style tomato sauce. Crispy Pata includes an undercooked shank bone. Spicy Gambas is not really spicy. You get the idea.

Service is friendly and helpful and suprisingly well trained.

If you are in So. Leyte, do pay a visit to Kuting Reef on a Friday or Saturday night and do your best to have a good time. Because it will be, without a doubt, the best night out you will have during your visit!

Pleasant surrounds with a lovely ambience. But it ends there. No working TV, air conditioner was not good enough to cool the room. Bathroom was sub-standard, but did at least have hot water. Breakfast was a joke. Buffet style...rice, dried fish and soggy scrambled eggs. For an international patron that just doesn't cut it. Asked if I could have a piece of the delicious looking fresh mango on the bench in the restaurant, 'No mam, just the watermelon'. No watermelon to be seen. For charging top dollar, this was a disappointment. Never will I return.

Contrary to the review that the bed was like concrete, so sorry but we love the bed. The authentic food were all super delicious with little dash of gourmet taste. The halo-halo has it's own personality that can not be compared to the typical halo-halos anywhere (excellent). The fruit shakes hmmmm purely tasty. The staff are always available and helpful. Kudos to the owners. We enjoyed our stay.

The overall outdoor scenery is good especially in the afternoon it looks kinda romantic. The food is good and staff are approachable and accommodating. The pool and seawater are great, we had so much fun. However, the downside is the rooms are old and i think the a/c is too small for the room (we stayed at the casita room), and seaside is not sand more on rocks tiny rocks and the most negative for me is at their resto wherethere are lots of flies. Pero kahitpapano we enjoyed our stay there..

Although in a beautiful location, was a little disappointed with the rooms. The bed was like sleeping on concrete, the air conditioner was super noisy and the bathroom was dirty. The bathroom sink had more water pressure than the shower.
Restaurant service was slow but the food was good. Beautifully maintained grounds and location make this the biggest selling point
