The lady presenting the tour of both the history museum and the Windpump Museum made it so interesting.
It was wonderful to see how the pioneers lived and their wagons, old bibles, clothes, cookware, clothes etc. What a hard life and such courageous people.
The windpump museum was so interesting to learn of the history of the pumps in South Africa and the difference between a windpump and a windmill.
Really worth a visit.

We visited on a bus tour. Some lovely photo opportunities with the windmills and lots of patches of flowers in around the town. Not a lot to do or see other than the windmills and a lovely church around the corner.

A great place to stop off, stretch you legs and be amused. Informative staff will entertain you with stories of times gone by. And who would have thought you got so many different wind pumps!?
Probably not worth a trip to Loeriesfontein in itself, but the town is well worth visiting during flower season anyway. Definitely worth a stop if you are already in the area.

This museum is a must visit if you are in the area.
What makes it so special are the people who look after this place.
The museum is full of local Karoo history and a great collection of wind pumps and wind mills. Pumps for water and mills for grain - we learnt something!
The pannekoek/ roosterkoek kitchen is also really special, particularly if you can get the "chef" to tell you about the town the people and the stories about Loeriesfontein and the area.
We really enjoyed the visit.

Who would have thought windmills could be so interesting? Another little gem of a museum being kept alive by good will and enthusiasm.
