Five stars from us! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We have just stayed at Jackdaw's Perch for 3 nights/4 days. From the start, we knew it was going to be a good break - from the photos, location and communication from Chris and the joining instructions were brilliant, I was able to ask any questions and receive a detailed response practically immediately. As we had booked the cottage for a Detox break (doing ourselves) and specifically as it was dog-friendly, we asked about local places for walking and wild swimming and Chris sent some really good suggestions. There is loads of information leaflets in the cottage too, and a detailed manual which really helped.
The cottage has everything you could want for a home from home break, but it's really stylish as well as being homely and comfortable - and exceptional quality throughout, from the cutlery and crockery to the lamps (gorgeous) and the bedding - oh boy, it was luxurious and the beds soooooo comfortable. Free Wifi meant I was able to work around our walking/going to the beach (we went to South Shields).
All rooms are beautifully decorated and we loved spending time there. The garden to the front is a real suntrap in the afternoon - the back garden totally private and enclosed and perfect for dog owners. We took our 6.5 month old pup and it was reassuring that we could just leave the kitchen door open and let her sniff around. Gravel makes for easier cleaning up too! The cottage is in a beautiful location and although on a roadside, it's very quiet as it's not a busy road at all. There is an extra loo outside too in the utility room (washer in there), which is great for that final wee when you're all booted up for going walking in the gorgeous nearby countryside!
The cottage is sparkling clean, the extra touches, the fabulous decor and competitively priced - make this the perfect place for a holiday. We will definitely be booking again - the whole experience from start to finish was one of the best I have experienced, not just for being incredibly dog friendly, but everything, and we go away often for short breaks. Thanks Chris, from Fiona, Jackie and Rosie Jane
Don't look any further. This is a great find. We absolutely loved the brand new facilities with sparkling en-suites in both bedrooms. Downstairs is stylish and comfortable and a superb central heating system makes it toasty in winter. Excellent smart TV and good WiFi kept the teenagers happy and host Chris is very dog-friendly, providing dog bowls and even a bed. Chris couldn't have been more helpful and there are lots of tips in the house guide about places to visit and eat. Durham is an easy 20 minutes by car, making this a great option if you are visiting a child at university as we were. There's also a pub (locals, not gastro) and a dog/child friendly cafe in the village. Behind the house is a playing field for easy dog-walking. What more do you need?!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at jackdaw's perch!
The view, especially first thing on a morning, is beautiful. The house is a perfect combination of modern convenience and period decor. The owner was also very accommodating and kept the property well supplied with fully equipped kitchen, smart TV and fast wifi. Would gladly stay again!
Thanks
Jackdaws’s Perch is a lovely, cosy cottage, perfect for our needs, a real home from home. It is in a great location, near to Bishop Auckland, with beautiful views over the Wear Valley.
The hosts were prompt with communication, friendly and welcoming.
The house is fully equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The beds were comfortable, and there were en suites in both bedrooms. A real treat! Kitchen is a great space too, big enough for socialising whilst cooking.
We recommend spending an evening at the local pub, The Red Lion. Lovely staff, decent food menu and friendly atmosphere.
Would highly recommend this cottage and will be booking again in the not too distant future.
Lovely little cottage in quiet area. Everything seemed brand new! House was very cosy and was good that both bedrooms had an on suite. Outhouse was great for storing the bikes and the very muddy boots.....
Had a lovely day out in wolsingham and also visited Stanhope which was great and only 20 minutes away in the car.
Hopefully will get back their in summer and can go to Kynren and maybe beamish museum as well.
