The Mount Cannibal Reserve is located on Garfield North Road, three kilometres north of Garfield in West Gippsland Victoria.
My husband daughter and I thought we would go on this walk as we had heard a bit about it. The trail is approximately 4km in a loop. You can either go left or right. The trail to the right is less strenuous than the left which has a lot of very steep steps which are easier to come down. Both trails lead to the top for magnificent views. Great for photographers as well as for fitness. A lot of the trails are quite narrow and close to the edge so make sure you wear suitable footwear and carry a water bottle.
I feel you would have to be quite fit to do this walk and do not recommend it for the elderly or young children under 6 years of age.
There is a public toilet on site as well as parking with a swing set and a couple of picnic tables at the entrance.
I highly recommend this walk especially for those who like a challenge in fitness.
Excellent place to visit and do the walk loop.
Even those of moderate fitness can do it easy if you take your time and have a few rest breaks along the way on the most welcome seats provided along the way.
Great views and beautiful bushland to walk through.
Very peaceful and enjoyable place to enjoy.
a little bit strenuous but worth it. there is plenty of information on the board and trail notes to inform you about flora and fauna. nice views from the top.
Mount Cannibal is just a stone's throw away from my house. Over the years it has become more well known with bush walkers and photographers. It is a great spot to take a casual stroll up the mountain and enjoy 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside. You can see out as far as the ocean on a clear day, it is truly amazing. There are many wild flowers and wild life visible. I have seen echidnas, goannas, wallabies, kangaroos and deer, although when the mountain is packed with walkers, they generally stay away. If you're physically fit you won't have a problem hiking up the mountain, it doesn't take that long to get around being only a kilometre and a half circuit however it is quite steep and no good for people with limited walking mobility. Great to take pictures and explore...
This has an great fitness hike circuit of about 5kms. The views are scenery and will worth the climb up and there's a great rock ledge to sit on at the top and admire the views
A wonderful way to enjoy the environment, kids just love it. A little taxing on the legs, but the views are magnificent.
