After 7 days in Rome and a loooooot of walking, we decided to end our trip in Italy with a day at the beach. Santa Marinella was the right pick for us. Our apartment was walking distance to Termini, 4.60€ and an hour later we were at the Santa Marinella train station, only a 5-minute walk from the beach. There are 2 trains per hour. Yes, it's a bit pricey but not more than any private beaches in Europe: 30€ for 3 chairs and an umbrella. Lots of locals, very clean beach with brown sand, cool sea, lots of sun. It's not the Carribeans but good enough. A beautiful day, easy, breezy!

We found the beach pleasant, but crowded. However, the service was atrocious - having a staff member yelling at us that the seats we were using were reserved (without any marking whatsoever) but only AFTER collecting payment.
We had a much better time up north at Viarregio, with a far better beach and support infrastructure.

came here from Civitavecchia which was where our ship stopped the train was very cheap and ran every hour or so. The beach is only a 5/10 minute walk down the hill. The beach isnt cheap, 30e for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella for the day, no half day options for the red brolly spot we chose. There is a small serving hatch cafe on the beach that do pizza and beers etc which was reasonable enough. There is a bar over looking that end of the beach as well and another restaraunt at the other end of the promonade not much else near the beach it seemed to me

After a 45 min journey from Termini, Rome we arrived in Santa Marinella. The beach is only 5 min walk from the train station and it's really easy to get to. The beach is private but if you don't want to pay there is a small area which is free. Private or free, I was impressed by the level of cleanliness of the entire beach. Food wise there are a few restaurants to choose from serving pasta, pizza, fish, sea food, etc. The weather was gorgeous and the beach not too crowded which made it just right. Definitely worth it

45 Min train ride from Rome, the beach is very close to the train station. Clean and nice little spot. You can rent a chair and umbrella for about 20 euro but there is also a free spot where you can lay a towel. Nice and quiet beach on a weekday, and a good spot to get out of the hussle and bussle of Rome.
