I stayed with my family at Treatooo Lagoon View Hotel for three days. Very good place to stay since it is situated facing lagoon. They served gourmet food for dinner. Very friendly and polite staff. The owner was helpful. Room was very comfortable and tidy. We went a board riding also. During our stay at Treatooo, we felt as we are in our own home.

nice and clean hostel with good beds (comfortable mattress), simply furnished but everything here what you need: air conditioner, towels, mosquito nets, soap, tv, wifi etc. i had the first recreative sleep since days in Sri Lanka. staff is nice and helpful. laundry service is a bit expensive and bicycle rental is too expensive, so we didn't rent some. ants were all over the room, but i attracted them with honey bonbon and killed them all by lighter inferno. there was a flea on the bed but it seemed harmless. mosquito net was a bit too short for the bed and the bathroom was a flood after every shower. doesn't matter, we had a great time.

2 beautiful balcony rooms upstairs –good value –food fantastic. Small friendly town - try and find the ice cream shops. Attempted some fishing no luck although the local fishermen were doing great. Watched a sea plane land on the lagoon twice a day.

We arrived early evening to spend the night before going to Aragum Ba. The staff told us different prices for a more expensive room so we declined it for a basic room. Afterwards the owner quoted us a cheaper price for the nicer room after it was already taken! the room we were staying in had a blocked shower drain so we were given the room at a discounted price as we couldn't use the bathroom. Room was very basic and felt dirty.
On the whole, the place was not inviting and didn't have a nice atmosphere to it. It also didn't feel as if they maintained the rooms or the accommodation at all. Would not recommend this place to stay.

I've always been told, that when criticizing places or people, you should start with something good, bring up the bad and end with another good thing.

So let's start with something positive.
Some of the hotel staff seems friendly and helpful and the hotel courtyard is quite nice and cozy.

Now to the lesser good.
However, the hotel overcharges when arranging taxis and tuktuks. Some staff members constantly stares in an unpleasant way and seems to be somewhat annoyed that you are there.

The taxi the hotel provided was a small Suzuki which barely fitted our bags let alone the four of us.

The day before arriving we called in advance to ask if the hotel could assist in booking train tickets. After a long and confusing conversation regarding our booking, in which the hotel staff insisted we were a French couple and not two Danish couples, the hotel staff hung up in annoyance.
When we arrived, the hotel had lost our booking (via Booking.com). We then presented them with our booking confirmation yet they still claimed we never had made a reservation with them. The staff suggested that we could have a single room and two beds. We declined and insisted that they gave us the two rooms we had booked. After a couple of minutes they made two rooms ready, but not the roomtype we had booked. When we mentioned that we were not going to pay the full amount, they reluctantly agreed.

The rooms lacked towles, bedlinnen, the drain smelled very bad in one of the rooms and the other was filled with mosquitoes.
The showers barely worked in one room and in the other, the water smelled like sewer.

After settling in, we ate lunch (noodles with beef) which were bad and the "beef" was mostly bone or fat.

We had originally booked two nights, but we all agreed that one was enough.

Last positive thing.
It's easy to avoid having the same experience as us, simply avoid Batticaloa and Treat ooO.
