“Perfect cosy cottage with everything you need”
Reviewed 18 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

The cottage is very tastefully decorated and felt extremely cosy in cold December with the fireplace (logs provided), comfy sofas and large DVD collection. The shower was powerful and warm which was perfect after a long walk/run and the beds were very comfortable and with extra blankets provided. There was plenty of space for 4 of us to stay for 10 days and not feel crowded. Edale is a such a sweet little village and a lovely walk away from the cottage to the activity centre/coffee shop/pub. Andre and Crista are very welcoming and friendly hosts and provide a lot of information in the cottage about to what to do in the area. Thank you for having us, we will be back!

“An 'almost hidden' Gem!!”
Reviewed 7 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We stayed at the cottage the first weekend in December and it was an absolute treat! Right from the booking confirmation (which also included very detailed instructions as to how to find the cottage and order details for the local bakery.... which was too yummy!) through to us arriving to a lovely welcome basket!
I think the owners are fairly new to the property, however you would not guess this at all, they were really welcoming and let us know where everything was (this was even when we were a little lost - neither of us is very good at reading directions! - hence the 'almost hidden' title!)
The cottage has absolutely everything you would need, even with two young children. We loved the lovely log burner - made it a very cosy family stay!
You are literally a few minutes away from Castleton which was our reason for the visit, it is a family tradition to see the Christmas lights and staying locally meant this was a much more leisurely trip.
Another added bonus was the fact that the Indian restaurant delivered to the cottage - saved us leaving the cosy fire!
All in all we had a fantastic time and will certainly back for another helping of 'Brown Bread' in 2016. Full marks - thanks Crista and Andre x

“Delightful cottage in idyllic location...”
Reviewed 1 January 2016 for a stay in November 2015

Our stay at Brown Bread Cottage was great. Set in the heart of the Peak District, the cottage is ideal as a walking or cycling base. The owners were very friendly and gave us lots of useful information about the local area.

The cottage itself was very comfortable and warm, with a wood burner that kept the cottage toasty warm on what was a very wet, windy weekend. It was well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses and kitchen equipment and a very thoughtful 'care package' on our arrival so that we didn't need to rush off to the village shop immediately - a lovely surprise! We were delighted to find that the local Indian restaurant in Hope village deliver to the cottage and a very tasty Indian it was too.

Due to the wet weather we didn't do as much walking as we intended but got out to visit some of the local villages which were delightful, especially Bakewell. However this does mean that we will definitely be back to visit and get to grips with some of the, many, local walks.
