lost potential

A building every bit as old and charming as it looks. Stay in a 17th century farmhouse, with the adjacent barn has become a pub. Should be excellent and could be, with a little more attention.
First, it lost its once rural location and is now almost impossible to find, marooned in the centre of a contemporary housing estate.
Excellent telephone manner from lady who answered our enquiries.
Silly details needlessly detract, like a huge wardrobe with no hangers, a lack of room ventilation and watch your shins on those protruding bed legs, ouch.
Dinner in the barn was simple and very tasty but the wine glasses were so badly washed they were almost opaque: needless mistakes again. Staff varied from very good (cheerful single-handed lady valiantly doing everything at breakfast from cooking in an ill-equipped mini kitchen to waiting tables) to abysmal (sullen-faced barmaid gracelessly failing to do anything about stained glasses beyond supplying two more just as bad and finally after being asked, some blue paper roll for the customer to polish their own)
Still, the charm of the delightful old farmhouse remains, with its many curiosities, awaiting the realisation of its full potential

A magical 17th century hideaway which provides a lovely place to recharge your batteries. This was our 3rd overnight visit as part of our car journey between London & Wales. Situated just off the M4/M32 junction outside Bristol makes this an ideal spot to break our long car drive. A important aspect is that we always sleep soundly after we arrive in the night and wake up in such a lovely charming place with stylish 17th century character. The staff are every friendly & polite and the breakfast buffer included is plentiful, full English cooked breakfast option is available at additional cost. I'm sure this won't be our last visit!

Room tip: The 2 actic bedrooms are more spacious if your happy to climb extra set of stairs

We traveled from Scarborough to Langley arms and what a treat we were in for. Absolutely stunning farm house setting albeit in a brook side location! We were greeted by very friendly staff and they allocated us a beautiful room and gave us good advice on how to get to the airport . We were a bit late for the carvery but there are a lot of places to eat around and about. The bar is lovely and the beer very reasonably priced . Had a great night sleep as it was very quiet . Would highly recommend a stay here. Thanks Langley arms!

What a pleasant stay. when we arrived on a Friday night we were slightly concerned as the pub had live music which was very loud. However, the guest rooms are in a separate building behind the pub area so the noise is not noticeable. When we arrived we were welcomed by the staff in a very friendly manner. Unfortunately, the wifi was down so they were unable to access their booking system which led to us being put in the wrong room. This was realised very promptly and we were moved to our correct room. They were very nice about this and provided us a drink at the bar for the inconvenience which was very nice of them.

The room itself number 5 was a lovely twin room. The room was very clean and clearly, pride is taken in making sure it is kept clean and to high standards. We had fresh towels in fact some were clearly new as they still had the plastic clip in them when we tried to unfold them. the beds were comfortable and we had a very pleasant nights sleep. the tea and coffee provisions in the room are standard although they did not appear to cater for people who prefer decaf coffee. having said this I didn't ask so maybe something they do have on request I don't know.

the breakfast was lovely we paid the extra for the cooked version and were not disappointed. I couldn't find fault with the food itself. I was however disappointed that when I booked it through a third-party site it said breakfast included and when we arrived were told this was only continental.

The building is a beautiful old building full of character. yes its old, yes the floorboards creek but that's what you get in very old places. the staff are lovely personable people. they were always polite kind and efficient. they were happy to talk and took an interest in us made us feel very welcomed.

I would have no hesitation in booking in here again if i needed a place to stay in the area. I would also have no problem recommending it to friends.

We stayed at The Langley Arms for one night recently. Our room was what I assume would have been the attic space originally (double deluxe). It was a large room, very clean and comfortable with private bathroom. The room had exposed beams and the building has a lot of original features. A continental breakfast was included in the price but we paid the extra £5 pp for the cooked breakfast and it was well worth it. The hotel is in the middle of a pleasant modern housing estate but it's only a short drive to get to the main road and there's a beautiful park next door. Great value for money and the staff very pleasant. We had a very enjoyable stay and will definitely stay again when next in the area. .

We are traveling by motorcycle and thus lack room to carry things like hair dryers and full compliment of toiletries. This hasn't been a problem in 12 of the 13 B&Bs and hotels we have stayed at on our UK tour, however it was at the Langley Arms. There was a dispenser for hand soap, but nothing else. No shampoo, soap bar or body wash, or hair dryer.

It is also the only place where everything must be paid for in advance, including meals in the restaurant. More like a fast-food McDonalds rather than a proper restaurant.

The issues seem mostly related to poor management and odd policies. The staff were friendly and helpful, but encumbered by odd policies.

Pros:
Old building with character, but lots of squeaks and doors that bang loudly when closed

The supper food was very good once we got it. We were the only ones seated in the restaurant area. The server came for our order and asked for a credit card to "start a tab" at the bar. We said we only wanted food and would go to the bar if drinks were wanted. We had a hard time understanding her accent and apparently she was telling us that we needed a tab even for food. And she thought when we said we would come to the bar that we meant we would order food there. We waited 20 minutes and she never returned. When we went looking for her we found someone who appeared to be a supervisor and she explained that we needed to provide a credit card before we could order food. This was a first for us and seems like a really odd policy.

Friendly staff and good service once the "bar tab" issue was sorted out.

Clean rooms

Cons:
Location in residential area so there is not much nearby to do or many alternatives for restaurants

Tab required for supper. Very strange

No amenities - shampoo, body wash, hair dryers so be sure to come prepared

Thin towels, one with hole in it

Old and uncomfortable bedding

Smell of sewer gas when we first entered bathroom. Running water in the shower fixed it so apparently the trap was dry
