We recently stayed two nights at the Marine Hotel and as seasoned global travellers we would have no hesitation in recommending to family and friends this hotel and we intend to stay again. We were recommended to the hotel by a friend who lives in the area.

The hotel is well located in Stonehaven with seating areas outside to take in the sea views and beach immediately across the road, the road being very quiet servicing a handful of businesses, homes and boats. The hotel is located in the heart of the harbour area with cafe's, a seafood restaurant and a small number of other restaurants in close proximity. The main shopping area of town is an easy walk away whilst the hotel is also close to the walk to the old castle and to a beachside walkway.

The room was small but well proportioned, modern, clean and tidy. The bathroom was similar. The room views optimise the sea view and sleeping with the window open listening to the waves roll in was bliss. We had some concerns the restaurant a level down and the bar a level below that would be noisy but in reality we had very little disruption.

Breakfast we felt was excellent. A good selection of fresh food, fruit, pastries, yogurt, meats and cheeses etc all well presented.
The 6 Degree North pub had a wide array of boutique beers and we found the food very tasty, well presented and reasonable.

The staff were outstanding. We chatted with quite a few of the staff and found them all genuinely friendly and helpful.

A great all rounder and well deserving of its 4 star rating. Well worth a visit for a drink or meal or to stay we felt this was a gem.

If you want to experience a real part of Scotland, this is the place to do so. The scenery is beautiful, you are surrounded by the rich Scottish culture and the food is unbelievably amazing. Everyone is super kind and welcoming and the town is quaint and lovely. The Marine Hotel is clean, spacious and comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious with some traditional Scottish dishes. Also, they cater to those with Coeliacs Disease which is awesome and appreciated. The bar is quiet, so no noises are heard in the rooms. This was such an amazing experience and I hope to return soon.

There is a toilet in the middle of the bar/restaurant - why??! It is the gents and every time the door opens (which is a lot) you get a whaft of stale urine and chemicals! Not nice when you are having a drink and worse if you are eating.

The good news is I would not recommend eating here. The food is very average but very expensive. Chips are frozen. No peas with fish and chips, no veg at all. Go to one of the many chippers instead.

Many beers but not a lot of variety. I am very familiar with TT Landlord, one of my favourites. This is always hit and miss, obviously other beers are mixed with it on most occasions giving it a bitter taste. It is also too cold. Not well kept.

Location is great, right on the harbour.

This is one of the best pubs in area. The selection of beer and location is second to none. However it is let down by the food. Using oven chips alongside some really good fish is just daft. Also overpriced food. However don't let that put you off.Eat elsewhere and drink here as it cant be beat when it comes to beer.

We had wonderful stay on the east coast. The Marines is an adorable boutique hotel. The restaurant served a wonderful meal, as well. We stayed in the Lucifer room. There is quite a trek up he stairway, but the third floor was quiet and had good views.
The hotel us just a short walk along the boardwalk to the town center.
