Owner description: The Africa Museum is a museum about people located in the wooded hills of Berg en Dal near Nijmegen. It has both indoor and outdoor exhibits, with regularly changing temporary exhibitions and permanent displays of traditional African objects and its large collection of contemporary African art. Objects that reflect the customs and traditions of different African peoples. They tell stories about universal human themes like mourning, celebration, ornamentation, prayer, conflict; stories that inspire visitors to find out more about the huge cultural diversity to be found in the world.

I was really surprised by this museum. It's surrounded in a hilly wood area.
You have a inside and outside area. Inside all kind of very nice objects, absolute no prullaria. Very nice objects which tells you more about the continent, the countries, the people and her flora and fauna. With now a very good exposition about feathers.
Outrside you find several examples off Africa buidlings. Plus you can participate in all kind of workshops, for young and andults. One tiny thing, some information text b.ogs where to little and to low to read. You have to go down our your knees to read it ;-).

Lovely get-away from the city of Amsterdam. A three-hour train ride gets you to this museum that features artefacts, short videos and model homesteads from the Ahsanti, Mali and Makonde empires, to name but a few.

The down-side is that any person who does not speak Dutch will be lost. The captions are only in Dutch except the section with collection of birds.

I remember going here as a kid, which, well, is over 30 years ago. As we happened to be in the neighborhood ( the excellent groesbeek wine festival), decided to go by here. Pleasant suprise, the ultra modern museum has an extensive display of african art, culture and history. And thats the indoors.the outdoor area contains several african villages, and more art.
We loved it

I came by bike from nijmegen and it's reasonably to get there, the road to the museum is uphil though. inside the museum is quite interesting about contemporary and old art from the african continent. It's also displays anthropological artifacts from africa where dutch missionaries have collected items from. furthermore there was a exhibition about how african music influenced modern music abroad and subsequently influenced modern african music. Another interesting exhibition was about great photographers who influenced modern photography.

the place is aaccessible for the less abled people and also for kids where they have set up workshops such as music making to make it intereresting. signs are set up to make children understand what certain items are about.

there is an outdoor section of the museum but due to seasonal reasons it was closed. from april on, it's great to visit as well because you can get an impression of the african architecture of different tribes. As well there are art works displayed at certain points.

This museum has a large outdoor part with huts/houses in different African styles. In summer there must be multiple activities outside, and then it's probably a lot nicer. The indoor part shows some modern African (and Haïtian) art, and typical African items such as shields, masks, drums. Some information about slavery.
