“Great place to stay in Hornito!”
Reviewed 14 July 2017 for a stay in June 2017

My family of 4 had a great 1 night stay at Refugio la Brisa del Diablo. Our room was very comfortable. The meals were great!! The best part was Olga and her hospitality. She arranged to have a cab pick us up from the David airport with an option to stop at the Canyon River. Unfortunately we were too tired to go. She also arranged to have a shuttle pick us up there and take us to Bocas upon our departure. It rained on and off while we were there so we were unable to walk to the nearby waterfall or enjoy the little pool. The view on the deck was nice. It was a nice place to relax.

“such a great find”
Reviewed 15 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

I stayed 3 nights at this hidden and very special lodge in the Panama mountains, 4 hours from Bocas Del Toro and 40mins from David , high up in the mountains, above the clouds and looking towards the highest mountain in Panama , Mount Baru. It is on the main road between the Almirante and David and very easy to not even notice as you drive past but the bus will stop there if you get local transport which I did.

Myself and my friend stayed in the 3 bedroom jungle house which has breathtaking views from the most incredible balcony. The main area of the house is stunning but the bedrooms are reasonably basic . This is not 5 star living but it is nice. The internal walls in the house do not actually reach the ceiling so its not that private if you are sharing the house . Also remember you are in the mountains in a jungle house so some of the local wildlife ( smallish bugs ) came to visit me in the house. But the house is clean and I loved it.
There is a rather steep path down to the house so its not for the less mobile people. However the lodge does have 2 rooms in the main part of the house which may suit some people better .

One of the big attractions for this lodge is the food. Olga (owner) is the most incredible chef and the quality of food matches any 5 star restaurant I have ever been to. So if you are foodies then I would highly recommend if you are in the area to have at least a night here to sample Olga's cooking.

Its also just a really fun place to have a few drinks with the funny and entertaining Stefan ( owner, Olga's husband and bartender )

Basically this place is really quirky . Its completely different to anywhere I have ever stayed and I would go back in a heartbeat .

Olga will arrange a few excursions for you.
We did a half day trip to a waterfall ( stunning ) and a bit of a off road adventure to the hot springs. The hot springs were rubbish but the journey to get there was amazing so it was a great day out. We also went to the Canyon River which is a pretty place and fun place to hang out and jump into the river.

So if you are in the area and passing through from Bocas Del Toro to David or Boquete then definitely consider a couple of nights here at least . Its a fun quirky place, the views are fantastic and food incredible.

Thank you Olga and Stefan for a wonderful 3 nights
