Lovely, huge church right in the middle of the square in San Daniele. Beautiful nativity at Christmas and mass almost every day.

San Daniele del Friuli, the city well known for the famous cured ham, is built on a steep hill. To get to the central square, sloping streets have to be negotiated, luckily it is possible to use the car. At the top of the central square of this medieval town, the Duomo di San Michele Arcangelo is situated. Park the car (blue zone, 60 cent per hour) and mount the steps to the Duomo entrance. Inside much art and architecture can be admired. See my photos. As San Daniele isn't a tourist hot spot, but a charming medieval town all the same, there are no masses of tourists; inside the Duomo you can find the peace and quiet it was meant for. To be recommended.

It's not just the Duomo, the church, it's the entire ensemble in the center with the old buildings, the Antico Palazzo, it's arches and wonderful architecture. The Duomo is simple and nicely renovated with focus on small details. If you are in the area, this is a must, not just Prosciutto, Lardo and company!
