Villa with a View

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 July 2022
Located up on a steep hillside, 4kms for Borobudur Temple, this Villa is a great example of Javanese luxury and hospitality. My pre-booking communication in English was great with fast replies. They recommended a driver who picked us up at Semarang airport and drove us to the Villa. The roads are steep, so vehicle parking is at the base of the hill and a hotel shuttle will pick you up and take you 2 minutes by car to the lobby.
We stayed in the 2 adjoining Borobudur Suites. Located just above the common living room, these suites have amazing views of the valley and Borobudur Temple. The rooms are large, with carved wood panels and full amenities like in room safe, hair dryer, strong AC and good WiFi. The bathroom is quite large with a huge walk in shower. These suits share the common pool, but it is never crowded.
We did not experience many mosquitoes. Maybe it was the time of year. But the beds are covered by mosquito netting and insect repellent is provided in the room.
Because of its location, there are not any restaurants within walking distance, but dining at the resort is possible. The food is good, however as previous posters have mentioned, it does take more time than usual and we did not have to pre-order our breakfast. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay. It is a special experience to be at such a charming Villa and I highly recommend Villa Borobudur.

The most awesome resort in Magelang, best view and best service from the staff, feeling like your own home. The resort is located in the village only 3 km from borobudur temple. The road is extremely steep, as you can only park your vehicle at the parking lot, and using their car to bring you to the villa. We are staying at first at Villa Diponegoro with amazing architecture inside, huge villa, and amazing view. However, the pool's water is cloudy after some treatment, so they upgraded us to Merbabu Villa with 3 rooms. And this villa even more amazing. The view is extraordinary, we can see the Borobudur temple very clear and the sunrise as well. The pool is very deep, so be careful with your children. The regulation is not strict, so you don't need to pay for extra pax. The food is tasty with low price. And the most calming and happiest are the really helpful staffs. They provide us with 2 private staffs that can help all of our needs, even to buy traditional food downtown. Maybe I have to say that this resort is much much better than Plataran and Aman Djiwo with comparable price or even slightly lower price. My suggestion is to choose Vila Merbabu or Villa Kayangan for best view. Villa Menoreh also offer a good view. But for guests who like indoor more, you chan choose Diponegoro Villa as it has the most amazing craftmenship for the architecture and also larger indoor area. Surely will come back again to this Villa with my whole family.

Room tip: Spend most of your time only inside the Villa, the access will not allow you to go out very often from the resort.

After 18 years living in Asia I have kind of seen most things. But Villa Borobudur is an exceptional place to stay and I found my 3 nights there enchanting. The service from the team there is exceptional and very detail is thought through. We took one of the family villas and the view from the terrace across the valley and over to MT Merapi is just amazing. If you want an authentic Javanese experience while you visit the tourist spots, this is it.

Room tip: take your pick - all the villas looked amazing

We checked in to Villa Borobudur for 3 nights, the view is spectacular and the resort is very peaceful. The rooms are quite basic for the price but perfectly adequate. We were a bit disappointed that the area by the pool was being renovated and that they didn’t tell us before we arrived. It didn’t stop us using the pool but it impacted the view.

We felt the dining area lacked atmosphere- all meals are served in the same place and take a long time to come because the kitchen is clearly located some distance away. All meals had to be ordered several hours in advance, for breakfast the night before.

We enjoyed a variety of activities that are easy to access from the resort including hiking, visiting the temples, yoga and massage. The cost of the driver seemed to be integrated into the overall cost including the adhoc trips to other places for lunch/dinner- which was much appreciated. We also appreciated the fact that the staff were able to get the rugby World Cup on the TV for us to watch!

Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and the staff were lovely!

Dear Mrs. Rebecca,

Thank you for your positive review and feedback. We regret that your view from your swimming pool, was somewhat impacted by an extension that was made at the time for the terrace of the Taste Java restaurant. As you noticed the project was stopped, to ensure you could fully enjoy your upgrade to Villa Mahayana.
The reason we ask our guests to order their next meals in advance, is because we always use fresh ingredients (like fruits and vegetables) directly from our gardens and the Borobudur market. However, we can always accommodate “last minute” changes to your order. We very much appreciate you enjoyed your stay with us,

Kind Regards,
Yanazil and team

I stayed in the Villa Kayangan for four lovely nights. I loved every moment of it--the peaceful setting high in the Menoreh mountains, the view of volcanoes and Borobudur, the epic sunrises and sunsets. The private pool is gigantic. I found the hums of the calls to prayer from the villages in the valley below enchanting. The staff is kind, friendly, and genuinely wants to ensure you have a lovely trip. You have the privacy of an AirBnB but the amenities of a hotel--room service, housekeeping/turndown service, concierge/someone to help schedule your tours and activities. I think it's the best place to stay in the area and offers an authentic Javanese experience.

Room tip: Villa Kayangan is by far the best. It is at the very top of the resort, has a phenomenal view and lovely pool.

We spent three nights at this beautiful location and it was incredible. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a villa and it was the most beautiful accomodation we have every stayed in. We overlooked the Borobudur Temple and the gorgeous valley. The food and the friendly and helpful staff are excellent. We will always remember our special few days at Villa Borobudur. Thank you!
