4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Apr 2012via mobile
This guest house is excellent value the staff were very friendly and made our stay enjoyable and relaxed it's right across the road from Borobudur and you can wake early to see the sunrise at Borobudur without having to be up at 3 and missing the lunch and afternoon crowds rooms are basic but I would highly recommend this place

I stayed here at the end of July 2010. I really really wanted to get into Lotus II but didn't phone far enough ahead. I decided to just suck it up and stay at Lotus 1 because I wanted to do a Jaker tour. We stayed in one of the upper floor rooms with AC. My husband votes it not only the nastiest dive I took him to in three months in Asia, but the worst place I've made him stay in the world. Having said that, it wasn't THAT bad in my opinion. The bathroom was very moldy and nasty, but we didn't have anything stolen. We did not get bedbugs. Borobudur was across the street. The tours were good. I think it was worth it to be able to spend 24 hours there and see a lot: Mendut Temple by night; Mahitan Hill to watch the sun rise over Borobudur; a horse cart (dokar) tour to see glass noodle, tofu, and pottery villages; and of course Borobudur itself. Plus it is on the way from Yogya to Wonosobo/Dieng.
Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the room as I guess I'm not one of those people who takes a lot of pictures of what they didn't like.

Lotus2 rooms are spacious but quite simple, so they are not the main attraction (although they offer good value for money). The main highlight is the young team looking after this guesthouse, they did not spare their efforts to make us feel good. We did not use any tour through them, but received precious tips on the region, got a good price for a 1-day car rental and even got treated to a home-made vegetable stew for dinner! The view from the terrace overlooking the rice fields is terrific, great place to spend some time at the end of the day, iwith suprisingly few mosquitoes. 15 min walk to Borobudur temple, 1h by foot to Mendut (a must-see!) make it all-in-all a great spot to explore the region.
One of the nicest and most authentic part of our stay in Java
NB - Had a dinner at Lotus1, looked pretty dim. Certainly less appeal than Lotus2

My wife and I stayed in Lotus II for a couple nights on our trip to Borobudur. We could not have been happier with our stay! We stayed in the room on the first floor which was incredibly spacious for two people. It has air-con and a private bathroom with hot shower. It also has a sitting room with a beautiful view out to the rice fields. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I spend hours hanging out with them and talking to all of the young Indonesian guys that hang out there on a rainy afternoon. We also did two different tours with the in-house tour guides Jaker. We did a local village tour to see different industries and a tour to nearby rice patties. Both were great, especially the rice patties! It was incredibly beautiful and you are basically guaranteed to be the only foreigners in the village. One thing I suggest is to tell the tour drivers to drive slower, they tend to zip along a little too fast. I highly recommend this guesthouse and the tours!

This hostel was the highlight of my trip to Yogyakarta. I felt lucky that I decided to stay for a night at Borobudor, in this hostel.

I stayed in Lotus 2. It was part of the local community called Jaker to help local people benefit from tourism and help us to interact with them. They organized special trips. It was sad that I only had the time for one, the night trip to Mendut Temple and medication with the monks. It was very nice and peaceful. The guide, who worked in the hostel as well, had great knowledge of buddhism and local community. He told me a lot of interesting things. Other than that, he was very friendly and helpful. So was everyone else in the hostel.

The room was very basic, but you could obviously see they did make the effect to decorate it. It was raining when I arrived and there was some water on the floor. But that didn’t affect much. There was gorgeous rice field next to it. The view was beautiful.

One bad thing: there was a mosque next to it. They started to play loud music early in the morning. I guessed the whole Borobudor place could hear it, so no matter which place you stay with, you will have this problem.

Again, the best thing about Lotus 2 was its people. The locals in the village were also very nice. Go interact with them, and you will be surprised.

I stayed at the Lotus II guesthouse with my family we had two ground floor rooms. My mother and brother had the room over looking the sawah with a sitting room and a large lovely room with twin double beds. All was nice except the bathroom which smelled and meant they were traipsing across the reception area to our bedroom often. Our room was a decent size with a huge bath in the bathroom which was heavenly and we got decent sized, clean towels (which is a rarity here).
In the morning we did the sunrise Borobudur tour which I would highly recommend although bringing better, more sturdy footwear than us would be wise.
