The Old Jail building has been converted into a coffee shop/antique/art/second-hand books and bits venue. Take a leisurely stroll through the different cells for art, clothes, books and more.
Some people have had trouble locating the gallows, but you can find it easily when you browse all the cells. If you are impatient though, it's in the furthest corner of the room next to the "Gifkamer" (Poison Room).
There is an eerie atmosphere walking through the inner courtyard, but that can be easily remedied with a bite to eat. There is plenty of outdoor seating under avocado trees, and in the winter there's a fire crackling away in the one indoor dining room.
The full Jail Breakfast is great value for money - two rashers of bacon, two sausages, two eggs and toast for R45 (price at the writing of this review). Children and teens might find this boring, but in principle the venue is family friendly.
