Worth the visit. Steeped in history, and a real hangman's gallow. Cells still in same conditions. Makes you sympathise with the last, and have some chilling reminders that crime does not pay.

Lovely little shops and nursery, tea garden and plenty of super books to buy.

Outstanding

The old jail combines a museum with an antique market where most items are for sale.

The building itself in good condition and well preserved.

The history so comes alive and there's many interesting items on display, meaning there's something for everyone.

Going in just for a look, landed up walking out with an oil painting, a few bread boards of solid quality wood, childrens toys, gifts for grandparents, books for the children etc etc.

Definitely worth at least a look.

The outside still looks like a jail but inside all becomes softer and flowery because it is now a nice restaurant and a superb trinket market. Some of the exhibits are unique and worth a visit.

Lovely peaceful setting with cells converted into interesting little arts/ crafts/ antiques for sale. They had friendly service.
No fine dining but at least the food was at low cost.

We were driving from George to Cape Town and wanted breakfast and saw the sign for the Riversdale Old Jail. We like to try different places on our travels and we weren't disappointed. The staff were friendly, the service was great and our Bacon & Egg breakfast was delicious. Lots of interesting nooks to look at too.
