“A boat trip around the Saltee Islands ”

My husband and I were taking a trip around Ireland and decided to take a detour to Kilmore Quay on our way to Wexford.
We were hoping to take an impromptu trip around the Saltee Islands.
We parked for free on the Quay itself and took a short stroll towards the harbour. There was a large sign saying Saltee Ferry with a few people stood nearby so we ventured over and was told the group needed a couple more people to make up the numbers to sail. We were so chuffed!
Within 10 minutes we were on the boat on our way.
The journey took us around 20 minutes and we were fortunate enough to have great weather. Our captain and crew knew the islands well and pointed out seals, cormorants, and a few other species of sea bird. Unfortunately we were a month too late to see puffins (my favourite) but had we had been a month earlier we would not have seen the grey seals. You can't have it all!
The bot ride latest around 1.5hrs and was enjoyable from beginning to end. It cost us €20 per adult and was worth every penny.

when I was told that we were going on this trip my first impression was "oh no, island means boat" I was so scared to go on the boat and so excited to see the island too, the boat ride out was so fun it took about 15 mins to get out and when you are literally right next to the island where the water is shallow they take you off the boat and put you in a little kind of speed boat to get to the shore that takes like 2 mins the island is absolutely gorgeous the scenery there is beautiful overall I think you definitely cannot go here without something to take pictures with its fab.

This was a real highlight of the trip despite the awful experience with the only boatman allowed to stop tourists off at the island. We had (sms proof) arranged for him to pick us up at a certain hour and he arrived over an hour late. We were a large group of 20 and Declan (as I said the only one the family who own the island allow to land) left us stranded there for over an hour. We could have had plenty of time to see more of the island if we had known. And we didn't even get an apology. He just lied about the time we had arranged for pick-up, though it had been confirmed time and time again.
That said the island was beautiful. When we were meandering up the southern coast to reach the gannet area, we felt like we were in either the Jurassic Park movie or a Famous five novel but in either case it was stunningly beautiful.

As part of our visit to Ireland, we agreed that the Saltee islands looked like a must see. We were not disappointed! The weather turned out to be excellent, and the boat trip across to the island was extremely fun (although a little wet!)
Upon our arrival, we preceded to explore the island, heading towards the throne and the head, where the views were just stunning! We enjoyed the glorious sun, and took time to have a picnic overlooking the bird sanctuary (unfortunately there were no puffins, just lots of seagulls!). Afterwards, we went off the beaten track and found a less walked route, where we saw seals diving off the bay.
We loved our day trip, and would most certainly go back again to investigate other parts of the island! We even saw a seal in Kilmore Quay as the boat parked up!

Nature lovers are spoiled there. Even though it's private island there is only tiny bit used by owners. Rest it absolutely wild. Lots of birds, wild plants, seals, rabbits..Great place to spot certain species fe. puffins. To get there the best is to use Declan Bate's boats (25€ per adult) . He brings you at 11, and collects 3.30. I highly recommend landing on the island. You won't see that much if you pick eco tour around it.. If you lucky with the weather you will have a wonderful day if not im sure you will enjoy it too but get dressed for it. No shelter, no toilet..Ps. Some seagulls might be aggresive and even attack you if you walk to close to their nestlings
