Description: The tavern is located in proximity of the entrance door of Monticchiello, a nice medieval village near Pienza. With its few places (it is better to reserve), it proposes an elegant room, furnished with taste in typical tuscan style, it is comfortable and familiar. The courtesy and the professionality of the owner, Daria, young and passionate sommelier, are an optimal guide in the choice of the plates and the wines. During the beautiful season it is possible to eat in the terrace, enjoying a wonderful sight on Pienza, the Val d'Orcia and the Amiata.Accommodation in Monticchiello- The residence "Il Torrino" is a panoramic apartment obtained from the restauration of an ancient tower belonging to the boundaries of the medieval suburb Monticchiello. The structure, in proximity of the principal access to the village, has been completely restructured from the owner with taste and scrupulous care of the details. At guests' disposal a double room and a living-room with couch-bed and TV; panoramic view on Pienza and the Val d’Orcia. The prices for the weekly stay change according to the season and are comprehensive of heating, final cleaning, household linen. For briefer stays contact the owner.

It is tucked away in the small town of montichello. The food is so good that we ended up eating here for two nights out of our three night stay in Tuscany.

Daria is an amazing host and she made awesome food and wine recommendations.  We tried the burrata cheese dish, spinach ricotta pasta, bean soup, truffle pasta - all were master chef quality.

They also have a terrace area where you can eat food and enjoy wine soaking in the stunning views of Tuscany but since it was very cold during our visit, we chose to sit indoors.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is great - whether it is a couples trip or a trip with friends!
Prices are reasonable and the staff is super nice.
Appetizers and wide selection of wines is the best thing the restaurant has!

Very popular restaurant with inside and balcony seating. Had a tasting menu including several local pastas and three types of Pecorino cheese with jams - unusual combination for us but quite common locally. Food cooked, presented and served well. Delicious local wine. Even though it was busy, we were able to eat a leisurely lunch. We were well looked after.

Our lunch at la porta could not have been better. We arrived for a 12:30 reservation and were seated on the charming terrace with fantasic view of Val d'Orcia on a warm, summy day. Service was just right. We shared the prosciutto with warm, melted peccorino with truffles. Yum. Then a generous and fresh insalate misto, pici with ragu sauce, and sliced beef with grilled zucchini ribbons. All delicious. For desert a chocolate torte and desert wines. The wine list by the glass or bottle has a nice variety of the southern tuscan varieties we were looking for. We shared a local rossa di montepulciano. For desert a chocolate torte and a red desert wine. A perfect lunch in a perfect setting.

Came back here for an evening in colder weather-we had only eaten on the terrace in high summer-but still very high standard of food and service all round, and good wine recommendations- worth a detour (but if you can, also stay in Monticchiello, a beautiful place).
