“A Beautiful Building!”
Review of Milton's Cottage

Milton's Cottage
Reviewed 6 April 2018

Visited this beautiful cottage this week. The couple showing us around were very friendly and told us some very interesting fact about Milton. There are some beautiful editions of his books and a lovely garden at the rear of the property that is a must-see.

This attraction comprises the cottage which is Grade 1 listed and a compact delightful garden which is Grade 2 registered.

There is ample parking at the rear when the venue is open.

The cottage contains a varied and interesting collection , of items, which include a 1st edition collection as well as personal items belonging to Milton. Not forgetting a fascinating collection of manuscripts , books and paintings.Everything is displayed in an easily visible format , be it in a cabinet or wall mounted. There are three ground floor rooms open to the public.

The garden is split into a number of small intimate terrace style areas and planted with many of the plants and herbs referred to by Milton ,in Paradise Lost and other works . There are also quotations and other references to his works distributed throughout.

Very knowledgable are on hand to answer any questions.

A very knowledgeable lady showed us around the small cottage packed with information. Wonderful exhibition of editions of Paradise Lost, it was quite a thrill to be able to turn the pages of the Kelmscott Press edition. Very attractive garden. Staff were very helpful giving us tips for other things to do in the area.

My husband took a group of students, all of whom found the visit very worthwhile and moving. The guided tours were excellent, and the garden is stunning.

Interesting little cottage - authentic and feels as if nothing has really changed inside.
There was a guide who answered our questions - 3 rooms with books and prints on show. .
The garden was very lovely ! As he was interested in plants the garden has plants that are mentioned in his work.
There are workshops and events that take place there too.
It is not far from the village centre and easy to park as there is a car park next door. Great place to take visitors from abroad -
I took my English literature teacher from my childhood - perfect !!
