Having looked at the reviews, we were initially glad to be placed on the Playa side of the resort as this was so much closer to the beach, however the hotel is BADLY in need of an update and was very tired all around. Lots of dark wood which needed some varnish; creaky doors, worn floor tiles-especially on the stairways and corridors.
We did pay a visit to the much newer sister Mar hotel; this was far fresher although winds were bad there due to the higher elevation, much nicer modern decor and lovely bars.
Food at both centres suffered from the usual mass-production issues ie loads of but not much taste, although the fish was done individually and the BBQ ribs (sadly only served once) were pretty good, as was the house red wine and a decent brandy, so altogether not bad
Two decent pieces of entertainment; look out for the Four Tops whether you are a Motown Fan or not, otherwise mainly acts that would just get booed off the stage at most venues.
Probably deserved a 4# rating when initially opened, but now down to a 2-3 and needing a good overhaul
Excellent pool and good staff all around apart from the Maid who kept knocking on the door despite the do not disturb sign when we were taking a siesta!
Quite a few shops at the bottom of the hill-use the lift unless you are super-fit although prices, as expected, were rather high, so take loads of sun protection.
Beach lovely, but featureless and very windy, so best probably best avoided in favour of the pool and pool-bar in our opinion.
Spa VERY expensive and the poorly-equipped gym with no free weights and only a few machines in working order had no air-con and was more like a sauna
The reps worked hard with plenty of pool-side activities, if you like that sort of thing, and plenty of quieter areas, with plenty of loungers too, although several were damaged, beware

Room Tip: Sea view rooms were expensive and several complaints that the view was not good-we did'nt bother

We have just returned from a 1 week stay, strangely in exactly the same room as Pottleshome (252). However would absolutely have to disagree with their comment of 'overpriced'.

If anything for the level of service provided, the quality of food..and indeed the quality of wine, over the standard offering is well worth the money. (Well it clearly was, as I had one glass of wine from the non premium bar last night...and it left me feeling absolutely rank until we got on the plane at lunchtime.)

Balinese day beds excellent. Wifi by the pool was VERY handy to listen to Jazz FM with via my iPhone (although don't expect lightning speeds). Such an unbelievable relaxing week it was ridiculous! So good and as I say reasonably priced, that we are even considering going back during the autumn school holidays.

You did get the occasional sound from the main hotel, but only when the wind was blowing in the wrong direction..and it was hardly a nuisance!

Highlight : The waiter Rachid, looking like a spanish version of Richard Quest from CNN, oddly you never saw him working when Quest was on CNN, and when he was working, Quest wasn't on CNN

just returned from a 2 week stay, food was very very good , but in the evening you have to use the ajoining hotel if you want a drink , and there is nowhere quiet to sit. so you have to listen to the enterment, which is not for us, also we could hear this in our room 252,but it does finish about 10.30. you can also hear music and the entertament team, while sitting by the pool during the day, beds really comfy, nice view, staff always happy and frinedly, this is a large complex , with club premium off to one side a bit like a semi detached house, a bit too big for us , and over priced, had a nice time but wouldnt go back,

We have just returned from a week at the Jandia Playa and had a great stay! Yes the majority of guests are German, but this was never an issue for us, and the hotel staff speak great English, and were always very pleased (and surprised) when we tried to speak Spanish. Certainly worth learning just a few basics!

The food was great - plenty of choice - we never once sat down with a plate that wasn't full! There were a number of dishes that were clearly geared towards German guests, but it was nice to try something different, as well as the beautiful meat and fish that was always on offer. Just a slight word of warning - a lot of the food wasn't labelled, especially the desserts, which often contained nuts so just be cautious when selecting food if you do have any allergies! We only experienced small queues for food on our last two days, when there seemed to be a large influx of new guests. The Canarian Restaurant, which is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays didn't offer anywhere near the same quality as the main restaurant, and it was still buffet style - it was a nice change of scenery, but the food was not great.

The rooms are spacious and perhaps the cleaning could be improved, but it certainly wasn't anything that we needed to complain about - the main parts of the hotel were spotless. We had booked for a triple room, and had requested through Travel Republic that we have three full beds, as opposed to a sofa bed, but on arrival we found that we had the latter. We spoke to Franz (lovely guy on reception who coped very well during a busy check in time all on his own!) and he told us that it would be sorted the next day, which it was without issue. All of the staff that we encountered were nothing but polite and friendly - a great team of people.

The pools are great - very cold this time of year, but worth braving a swim if you can! We also found that the pool just outside the Wellness Centre was heated, but this also meant that families with small children tended to use this one, which after a morning spent there we gravitated back to the tranquillity of the more 'adult-oriented' pools!

The beach is absolutely stunning - gorgeous white sand, turquoise water and hardly any people at this time of year. It is roughly 5-10 minutes walk down from the main part of the hotel, and you take a lift down to a small shopping centre (which has a Spar) and then the underpass is (facing the beach) over on the left at the end of the shopping area. The sun loungers within the fenced off wind-breaker sections are 4 Euros for the day.

The transfer time there took nearly 2.5 hours so be prepared for a long journey after your flight - take plenty of water and some snacks! However, the return trip took just over an hour.

And for the big tea drinkers out there - take your own tea bags - the ones on offer are fairly tasteless and break easily. Otherwise the coffee is adequate and there are some herbal/fruit teas, as well as plenty of soft drinks and great beer that you can help yourself to. The cocktails are delicious, if a little strong!

All in all - a lovely hotel with wonderful staff, and plenty of choice when it comes to food. March is a great time of year to go, with the hotel half full - no queues, plenty of free sun loungers and more peace and quiet if that's what you're after.

Room Tip: We stayed on level 1 (reception level) above the restaurants. Really convenient location, nice view...
