“Great family holiday with Keycamp.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012 via mobile

We have just got back from a brilliant family holiday staying in a 3 room Villagrand Deluxe with Keycamps. We had been a bit worried by the reviews but had a brilliant time. Admittedly the weather was unusually good for this time of year so not sure if it would have been as good had it been very drizzly and cold.

The keycamp staff were incredibly helpful and kind sorting out a few initial problems with absent towels and booster seats that had been ordered when the holiday was booked. Keycamp had not provided the campsite with enough booster seats and need to solve this, however the lovely rep managed to borrow one from another company. The staff were also good providing an icepack when I hurt my foot.

The children (3 and 7 months) loved the kids club and made lots of creations with all the art equipment. Sadly only one of the pools were open in May and I think Keycamp should communicate this more clearly to its customers. We had seen this in the smallprint somewhere after booking so had adjusted our expectations prior to arrival but we met several people who had been quite disappointed about the lack of outside pool and waterslide.

We did have a powercut one night but it was fixed before dark so didn't cause us a problem really.

On the campsite the children loved swimming and riding round on bikes the best but my older son also had a pony ride and played minigolf which were fun.

The local area was lovely. We had fun on the steam train and boat rides in St Valery. We loved the moules frite (my 3 year old says mussels are now his favourite food). The market in St Valery was fun but most things seemed quite expensive (although I guess everything is more expensive in Euro). The aquarium in Boulogne Sure Mer was also worth visiting.

Sadly this will probably be our last keycamp holiday for a while (as I am returning to full time teaching and the prices seem to sky rocket in school holidays). However if we do get the opportunity we would love to go back.

We chose this site because it is used by Eurocamp which is usually a good benchmark for good, quality campsites. However, after we checked in and chose our pitch, a tour of the facilities soon dampened our enthusiasm. Very few facilities were open - the one shower/toilet block open was filthy and obviously hand;t been cleaned for several hours. Because the site was quiet, the ladies' section was closed and the men's shower / wc had to be used by both sexes.
Limited opening hours and high prices put us off eating in the restaurant or from the takeaway.
The grounds were not well tended for and the whole site generally looked run down and tired. We had a motorhome and the chemical waste disposal area (one and only) was a ridiculous distance away. Needless to say we did not stay the full intended period we had hoped and checked out after two nights.

Room Tip: Try "Le Walric" on the outskirts of St. Valery Sur Somme for a much better camping experie...

We've used this campsite, booked through Keycamp, as an overnight stop on our way further south for the last few years due solely to its location. While the keycamp caravans are up to their usual high standard the site itself is a real let down. Run down looking, standards of cleanliness are not great, the opening hours for reception, shop, restaurant & bar are limited. The thought of spending a fortnight there would fill me with dread. But for a single overnight stop within easy reach of the channel ports its ok. To be honest I'm surprised it's still used by Keycamp as it in no way reflects the generally high standard of the sites they use.

I have just returned from a week's holiday at Drancourt in a caravan with Canvas holidays.

The holiday itself was faultless, if you do some pre-planning and research you will have a great time regardless of the weather and French opening hours.

Campsite - Euros are not accepted on the site, you need to top up a card at reception but you get any unspent money back at the end of your stay. The shop is small but sells essentials. Any baked goods must be ordered the day before. The pool is warm when the weather's warm and is fit for purpose for a dip and a bit of a laugh.

The placements are all large, we had privacy and it is very quiet. No major roads around and plenty of opportunities for walking and relaxing.

Restaurant and Takeaway - Set menu for around 15€, takeaway is very reasonable too. 3,50€ for two sausages and chips.

Facilities - Mini golf needs a makeover but is fun if you don't take it too seriously. Free Wifi in the bar and loads of local info at hand from reception and your courier.

Supermarkets and shops - Intermarché and Carrefour Market are 5 mins away towards Saint Valéry. They are both the same sort of prices. More expensive than in England but you won't find cheaper. Buying French products is cheaper so if you need English food bring them with you or expect a bigger bill. Things that are a lot cheaper are wine, lager and cheese! Marvellous!

There is an Auchan hypermarket in Mers les Bains half an hour away. This is cheaper and sells just about everything you can imagine!

There will be a McDonald's next to Intermarché from around July 2012. The nearest tobacconist is in Saint Valéry.

Restaurants- There are many restaurants in Saint Valéry which is a ten minute drive from the site. All of them have set menus. You will pay a lot for wine so if you're on a budget look out for that. There are other nice restaurants in Cayeux sur Mer and Mers les Bains.

Tips and Misc- Parking in St Val is mostly pay and display so bring change. expect things to be closed on Sunday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings. Even restaurants seem to be closed on Weds pm.

Shops are shut between ca.12-14.30.

France is a lot more expensive than England generally. As I said, buying French will save you money.

Weather- We had two scorching days in April so bring sun cream!!

Driving- Excellent roads, driving was a breeze. Be careful at roundabouts as even local drivers will cut each other up and beep at each other.

All in all a great holiday. Bring a bottle opener if you drink beer! Enjoy your hols!
