Owner description: Abel Tasman Kayaks was established in 1986, realising a vision to bring visitors into the glorious Abel Tasman National Park. Sea kayaking is such a unique, low impact way to explore the beautiful golden beaches, peaceful coves and lagoons, offshore islands, wildlife and the native forest fringing our granite coastline! This innovation became an instant hit with visitors to the area, and saw the growth and development of Abel Tasman Kayaks into one of the leading kayak operations in the world. We have continued to lead the way with a strong commitment to high safety standards and experienced guides with incredible passion and extensive local knowledge of the park. We offer a comprehensive portfolio of guided, day and multi-day tours. We are here to bring this magic place to life for you....

Abel Tasman National Park is a "must" stop when you do a tour in the Southern Island of New Zealand and you have multiple ways to discover it.

As we did not have enough time to do the great walk path, we decided to opt for a day classic kayak tour with Abel Tasman Kayaks.

We unfortunately arrived at Abel Tasman the night of a very big storm with strong rain and wind. Despite the weather conditions being very bad, Abel Tasman Kayaks were maintaining the trip in the next day. So here we do we are heading towards the camp base at 9am the next morning, grey skies, strong rain but the staff from Abel Tasman Kayaks welcome us with big smile and great energy! The trip is definitively on!

As you arrived at the base, you checked in, you can park your car / van in the parking at the back of the company. Once all checked in, we meet our guide - Hayo - super nice, super tall, super pro. We start to pack tents, sleeping bags, food supplies for 2 days in the Kayak. We start to dress up as well... the team provides us with rain and safety jackets. Then, it's briefing time on who we are, what do we do, why are we here, and of course on the basics ... how to use the paddles, on we should react if we flipped over... at the end of the briefing you are ready for the adventure !

Our group was lovely made up of young European travellers like us ! The two days trip was great, not difficult despite the so-so weather conditions of day 1. Hayo was a great guide super knowledgeable about Abel Tasman, the animals, the coast ... and he made great pancakes at breakfast !

During the two days, you see a lot of animals ... seals, penguins are everywhere. We slept on one of the beaches of Abel Tasman National Park and what an experience in the morning as sun rise!

The whole trip was definitively worth it ! And Abel Tasman Kayaks were very professional and we had a blast !

Our party of 6 from the states truly enjoyed our kayak experience. Our leader was knowledgeable and efficient. Everything went off without a hitch. Take and use insect repellent for sand flies!

We had such a great day doing the kayak and walk option. For $125 pp this was really reasonably priced and didn't disappoint. Our guide (logan) was super friendly and chilled out. Our day consisted of about 2 hours kayaking, lunch, then the walk back (couple of hours walking slowly without stopping at beaches). The kayaking was great, very relaxed, suitable for all levels and there was no rush and we could be as part of the group as we wanted. The scenery is stunning and the trip is highly recommended. Next time we'd do a freedom hire kayak and go off on our own because it's safe and easy to do so. Fantastic day, highly recommended

Lets see...kayaking 40km, camping on the beach, bathing in the sea, seeing a rare black piwakawaka (fantail), seal pups swimming around the kayak, glow worms, a cheeky weka taking a running jump on my leg to steal breakfast, yummy food, sunny sunny days, awesome adventure buddies and as our best ever tour guide profoundly said “make your own adventures”...tick!!

P.s. As a fellow kiwi to other kiwi’s...let me reinforce-this is not just a trip for tourists-it’s a way to see our beautiful country too :)

I booked a 2-day kayak north/walk south trip last week and had a great experience with them. Staff were fantastic and very flexible. The weather was terrible leading up to the day of our reservation. I called right before driving to their base and Greg gave us the option to change our itinerary because kayaking that day could be miserable (heavy rain, poor visibility). We took a water taxi to Bark Bay, walked south on the coastal track and picked up at Anchorage Bay on the first day then stayed the night at a hostel. There was no additional charge for changing this.

Second day, we did kayaking and Josh was an excellent instructor for giving us a very thorough safety briefing before sending us out. I do canoeing and kayaking at home but definitely learned some helpful techniques here. There was wet suit, dry bags to use and shower facility to clean up after kayak and was nice to see that the staff really took care of their equipment and cared about your safety in the sea.

Overall I enjoyed my experience and highly recommend it.
