This place is amazing, a labryth of indoor and outdoor pools, steam rooms, saunas etc. It does get crowded and you need to book in advance.

Friday of our skiing trip in Courmayeur saw the weather come in and by the afternoon skiing was a dangerous activity to consider. My husband and I decided to ease the aches and pains of the week at Therme Pre St Didier. Thankfully we realised with the bad weather that the spa was likely to be popular and so our hotel reception put us on the waiting list in the morning. We were allowed to get a taxi across in the afternoon just after 2.30 p.m.

Our only other experience of this kind of spa is the Therme Bath Spa which is very pleasant. Pre St Didier makes this look tiny - the areas and options are so vast! The pools and saunas outside were lovely and even though it was busy we didn't have too much trouble finding a space in anything. You need to book around 3 hours here to cover all that you would want. We would thoroughly recommend waiting for the Augustus Steam Room (aka Turkish bath) where you rub salt on your skin - it was so soft afterwards. The restaurant yielded little that I was overly interested in eating, but it was all free and had I not had a large lunch I would probably have felt more inclined to pile my plate high with fruit and yoghurt.

I rather forced my husband into joining one of their offered treatments (in this case a facial) which we both ended up thoroughly enjoying even though it was in Italian. It was carried out in a relaxation room overlooking the outdoor pools and it was lovely watching the snow fall and the steam rise as night descended - face covered in guk.

The only downside to this place is the price. It cost us EUR 100 (so EUR 50 each) and that included a 10% discount which we got with our Inghams card.

There's no question that this spa can be enjoyable given a number of water and spa options available. My favourite is the waterfall room and the turkish bath. As the spa has expanded over the past few years however it has become more popular and consequently busier, at least in the winter season. Often it's crowded and noisy as too many people seem to forget that it should be a restful experience. Chatter in the saunas can be overwhelming at times. More often now you have to wait for a spot in some of the more popular water rooms. The main outdoor pool is always popular with a terrific view of the mountains however the popular bubble seats face the spa's main building rather than the Alps. On my most recent visit I found that the music pool was closed because of falling ceiling plaster, the Turkish bath was cordoned off for those who made reservations and the large sauna next to the foot baths wasn't even warm.

Best time to enjoy the spa is on weekday mornings. Avoid mid to late afternoons when skiers from Courmayeur and La Thuile arrive en masse. The spa is an adults only experience. Current prices are 42 Euros and 48 Euros on weekdays and weekends respectively and include a light buffet of fruit, cereals, juices, tea., etc. Check out the website for more information.

This place is just perfect for a romantic getaway. The outside thermal pools overlook Mont Blanc and other mountains and you can go from pool to pool while enjoying the scenery. The inside of the spa is just as great: there are saunas and steam rooms and many different relax areas to go for a nap. They also offer you a light buffet all through the day. there you have veggies, organic yogurt and bread and drinks. If you go at weekends or during peak holidays as we did, make sure to get in as early as possible in the morning so that you can enjoy some privacy. When it gets crowded, the spa loses some of its magic and you don't really enjoy it.
