We stayed as a family in July. Given the positive reviews we booked early in January and were really looking forward to our stay. Particularly the much feted warm welcome and family feel.

Fiscardo is a real jewel in the Cephalonia crown, and the Almyra is a good base for exploring the many beautiful bays and beaches nearby. But, sadly, we never got to experience much charm or welcome and so find it hard to feel enthusiastic about recommending it. It's clearly popular with various charter companies and perhaps not as well suited to independent travellers such as ourselves.

Sadly we only got to meet the owner on the first day - a charming, gracious lady. For the rest of our stay the manager Eleni was in charge. Efficient-yes, but not exactly warm or welcoming. We actually felt quite awkward around the hotel and preferred to spend our days away as we were clearly not part of the favoured 'in crowd'. When we checked out, the girl behind the desk failed to enquire about our stay or even say thank you for our custom. A really poor impression to leave with after ten days.

Our room - like the rest of the hotel - was serviceable and very clean - rather than stylish or comfortable. The decor felt tired and dated. The 'family junior suite' was just a disappointingly average sized room with a rock hard thin day bed squeezed in. Our room was not far from the road so we were conscious of traffic noise when on our balcony, as we were of our neighbours, as there is little privacy.

The pool area got extremely busy, and so there was plenty of bed bagging early in the morning-quite naff. Breakfast was poor. More student cafeteria than luxury hotel. Tables were not laid most days we came down, and even tea/coffee and toast was self service. Far from relaxing. Trying to get a cooked egg was chaotic and the staff charmless, despite our smiling and saying good morning. A miserable experience.

Fortunately, great Greek hospitality and food was to be found elsewhere on the island and we simply loved Cephalonia. But this hotel disappointed on many levels. Have never felt so unwelcome or our custom unvalued. Maybe due to the owner being away?

This was our fifth visit to Kefalonia and our first real holiday in Fiskardo,as we normally do we kept an eye on the trip advisor reports on the Almyra. We were not disappointed, the room(209) that we had was big, lovely big bed and it looked over the side of the hotel with a sea view. Two small problems with our room was the bath/shower and no extractor fan,you could not open the window without hitting it while having a shower. The staff from the cleaner/breakfast ladies to the ladies at reception and the bar man were really great, breakfast typically Greek, eggs, honey yogurt, bacon, sausages, and the pool area was not crowded and the sun beds plenty. The courtesy bus down to and back from fiskardo was a bonus as walking back at 10:00pm at night was a bit of a struggle.A drawback of staying in Fiskardo was the lack of public transport, you either had to hire a car or get a taxi(80 euros) to agastoli, and only a boat trip with Thompson’s.If you go to Fiskardo then you have got to try Mirellas just down from the Almyra, the food was very good with a good selection and value for money, there were other good restaurants in Fiskardo but not as good as Mirellas. If we went back to Kefalonia I don’t think we would go back to Fiskardo as there is not a lot to do.Could carry out ratings as something wrong with iPad but service, value and sleep all 4.5.

Room Tip: We had a side room,209,really quiet.

My first visit to Fiscardo and Almyra Hotel. Wonderful views and wonderful staff. Hotel is a hidden gem and very quiet. Fiscardo has is all. Small bays with isolated beaches, restaurants and bars plus a great Thai. I will be returning

Friendly family hotel about half a mile above the fishing port of Fiskardo.

Good size swimming pool, lifts to nearly all floors. Was quiet even in mid August.

Generally b&b but good bbq on Thursday night for about 20 euros

Room Tip: upper floor, not facing road
