“Perfect home away from home”

The comfortable house has been decorated with much attention to detail, contains all the things one may need (hair dryers, clothes dryers, washing machine, fully equipped kitchen, DVDs, books, etc.) and is located in a truly authentic and relaxing little village, with a fabulous beach just 5 mins away by car. Christin and Anton have been very accommodating, welcoming us in the middle of the night (1 am!!!!) after our flight got delayed many hours. They were available for all our questions and queries throughout the stay and were able to help us book surf lessons with a very good surf teacher for the kids. The house is very clean, comfortable, and stays nice and cool in hot weather.

“perfect getaway in a beautiful location”
Reviewed 12 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We had a lovely time in this beautiful house. It is situated in a traditional Portuguese village, in which time has almost forgotten.
The house is charmingly decorated and has all the facilities to make this a very comfortable stay. I travelled with four friends and found the house to be spacious and accommodating. Everyone particularly enjoyed sitting in the small garden drinking wine and barbequing.

“Wonderful Week in the Wild West Algarve”
Reviewed 13 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Rua do Castelo is a beautiful house in a small, peaceful rural village in West Algarve. We were welcomed by the calming music of a field full of cows, with bells gently clinking in the sunshine and felt relaxed right away. The panoramic views of the village, hills and valley from the terraces are great. Nature lovers will certainly enjoy this location.

The house is tastefully decorated in a modern cottage style, and well equipped. It is very clean with three bedrooms and bathrooms including a deep bath – great for a soak after a long walk. Outside there is a shaded seating area with BBQ and large outdoor dining table, then two terraces to the front and top of the house (1st and 2nd floor). In winter months, you would get to enjoy the log burner in the cosy lounge, we were tempted and it was 25C, maybe when we go back in Spring.

The village of Bordeira is a delightful unspoilt village with one cafe/bar, where local people and a few ex-pats gather in the evening for very reasonably priced drinks and a few local Portugese speciality dishes, home-cooked by Lourdes who runs the place. I recommend the Javali (Wild Boar) which was simmering on the stove behind the bar one of the times we visited. We were made to feel very welcome and returned a couple of times through the week. There are some dogs and chickens but this is rural Portugal and it adds to the atmosphere in the evenings.

There are a few walking guides for the area, but you can join the coast path, which is clearly marked, at most towns/beaches. I imagine it is busy in full season but in September/October we found plenty of space on the beaches and parking no problem. The West coast is rightfully famous for it's surfing (although we don't) but relatively undiscovered for walkers. The landscape is varied and you can easily see cliffs and crashing waves, beaches, sand dunes, hills and valleys all in a single walk. The hills while dramatic are not that high, so good for walkers of average fitness. For swimming (not surfing) beaches, it is a similar distance to the South coast where the water is much calmer.

Surrounding facilities are good with a large supermarket and everything you would expect in local market town Aljezur (15 minutes drive North) and small bars/cafes and restaurants (Portugese, Seafood) in Carrapateira (5 minutes drive South). If there is a vegetarian in your party or for a different take on a burger there are tasty options at the Micro Bar in the mini-town square.

The owners Anton and Chris were really helpful and ensured we had a relaxing stay, they can provide you with bike rental, bike tours, walking tours and jeep tours. Having made our own way walking we did take them up on the (personalised) Jeep tour which was great fun. This gave us the chance to take the dirt tracks you don't want to go down in your hire car, and took us to their favourite spots including beaches, castles, hidden valleys and lakes. Along the way, we also went to Adega da Craveira vineyard of a 'natural' wine maker and had an informal tasting (delicious) and met a talented wood turner with his wares. It was a great introduction to the area, and if you are interested, we would recommend doing this at the beginning of the week rather than the end.

“Relaxing vacation in a Mediterranean style home”
Reviewed 27 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

I usually don’t write reviews but after spending a long weekend in this beautiful, hidden place, I just had to.

I stayed with a group of 4 girlfriends for a long weekend in May at this adorable hide-away. This is the perfect place if you are looking for a relaxed, tranquil vacation in a picturesque nature setting – no mass tourism (actually barely any tourists around), no party, no noise, no traffic, no city stress. You will need a car and want one anyway to explore the surrounding area of Bordeira, a super small authentic Portuguese village. Parking is available next to the villa. Also, expect a small walk up a rather steep road to reach this Mediterranean style home, but the walk is worth it – the home is located above the village with amazing views of the area!

The house is newly renovated and the love and attention that went into every corner makes you feel at home immediately – from the fully equipped (roomy) kitchen, the (3!) uniquely designed bathrooms, and the extremely comfortable, neatly furnished bedrooms. I should mention the mattresses are new and more comfortable than my own. There are even Tempur-Pedic pillows!

We came here to spend some relaxing girl-time with long breakfasts, sun bathing, and late wine nights – thanks to the very friendly owners Christin and Anthony, we also got to explore the beautiful outback and even had our first surf lesson – which was a blast!

I will definitely be back!

“A lovely authentic Portugese village experience”
Reviewed 2 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We stayed 5 nights in this lovely property. It's situated up a hill in a classic Portugese village and is probably the best equipped rental property we've stayed in. I have nothing but positive thingsf to say about our experience. The website for the property is honest and fair. Anton greeted us on our arrival and did everything he could to ensure we had a good say. He helped our boys to get surfing lessons for example.

There are many great places to eat out but even should you choose to self-cater the propert is well equipped and there are plenty of places to buy great fresh produce.

The only caution I would give is that if you're a wheelchair user or struggle with steep inclines this isn't the village for you but that is the nature of the geography and nothing to do with this property.
