Mt Paris Dam turnoff is on the Tasman Highway at Branxholm. I visited Mt Paris Dam in January 2018 on a rather wet day. On arrival at the dam there is an easy walking track of about 100 meters down to the dam wall. Here there is an opening between the buttresses over large rough surface. On emerging through to the other side I was greeted with an amazing scene of small cascades and large Ferns growing adjacent to the entrance. It gave me a surreal feeling of having entered into another dimension.
As the Cascade River was very low, there were pathways around large boulders and a large amount of holes in the rock floor which had to be circumnavigated. The rocks are covered in lichen or maybe moss and were very slippery so please take care in the wet. As there was a wedding being set up at the time I was there, I took a few snaps and left long before I wanted to. It was such a fascinating place and I know I will return there at some future date. While older children would handle the area, supervision of younger children strongly advised. Well worth a visit.
