AMAZING VIEW , the postcard of CORON . try to do this one first in yr island hopping so you dont find long iines both for the pic and for the stairs. take into consideration 100-200 steps going up and down to the lake.
One of the nice things about the Coron attractions is that you have to work a bit before you get to enjoy it. Kayangan involves a short uphill hike... maybe 2-300 feet but it is well worth it. It's a brackish water lake with clear blue/green water. The real enjoyment comes from just allowing yourself to be immersed in the environment surrounded by limestone structures. The lake is owned and maintained by the Tagbanua... an indigenous tribe which makes a visit here all the more special.
Kayangan Lake is a mixed fresh-salt water lake located on coron island that is the site of perhaps the most well recognised photo of the Phillipines (See below).
Boats dock on a sheltered area opposite the lake and tourists walk approximately 400 steps over a small ridge to the lake on the opposite side. It is featured on the itinerary of pretty much every tour that runs in the area and consequentially it has become a victim of it's own popularity. Unfortunately a couple of tourists managed to drown in the lake and because of this, the following 'rules' apply.
(1) All tourists must wear life jackets to swim in the lagoon.
(2) The area tourists can swim in is fenced off, with a large rope preventing people getting into the open water.
(3) Costs 300PP per person to enter.
It is a very busy place and I would strongly advise you if you are planning on doing this as part of your private tour (Which you would be crazy not to), to time your arrival with a time when it's not as busy. Discuss this with your tour guide. Also note that the entrance fee is usually not included in the cost of the private boat rental. Be sure to clarify this to avoid a nasty surprise.
Its a beautiful place to visit particularly when the flocks of tourist leave and offers a lot of decent photo opportunities. The most famous is that quintessential image of the tourquioise lakes which you will see on pretty much every advertisement of the Phillipines. This is actually taken at the top of the walkway going towards the lake. It is of the bay in which the boats dock. When we were there there was a 1 hour wait just to get your photo taken, so we took something a bit further down the path.
A must see when in Coron. Beautiful azure waters, amazing landscape great destination. Only a few minutes from the main island.
After climbing and going down the stairs, you can take a dip at the lake and feel relaxed and refresh. You can also enter a small crevice by the side of the lake to take a small detour inside a small cave.
