From the moment we started exchanging emails with the owners we felt warmly welcomed. We arrived in pouring rain, for which they profusely apologised and assured us it would clear up!
This house has everything, sleeps 8 so the two of us rattled around a bit, but absolutely loved it. The modernisation has resulted in a superb kitchen with induction hob and American large fridge freezer, along with all other equipment you could possibly need to cook wonderful meals. Food basics provided. Open plan kitchen, dining space and living space, log burner, large hall with piano, downstairs loo and separate shower room, utility room with iron, ironing board, sink, washing machine, tumble dryer, and racks for drying clothes. Door to garage where you will find five bikes for your use. There is a table football table in a separate games room on the top floor (watch your heads on the beams finding it!)
Beds are comfortable, rooms have antique furniture and oil paintings and cartoons. Plenty of hanging space.
The main bathroom has three washbasins at separate heights, useful for families, a large bath with shower fitment over, and a separate wet room shower enclosure. This was the first property we have stayed at where all sundries such as washing up liquid, handwash, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets and conditioner, and even an ample supply of loo rolls were supplied, we didn't have to buy any of these!
There are nice touches like the bowl of fresh white roses to welcome you.
Outside there is a large barbecue and seating area on the road side of the dividing hedge, then through the gate to the large private secluded garden. A boules/soft tennis/badminton court is on the right with all equipment stored in the pool house, which also has a kitchen and loo.
There are plenty of sun loungers and tables and chairs for outside eating. The pool is exceptional, heated to 28 degrees, though reached 32 degrees whilst we were there. The cover is easy to roll back, but you can swim in the pool underneath it in inclement weather. (Fortunately the sun came out and temperatures reached 35 degrees, which I understand is unusual for this area!)
The owners, living just across the road, were very helpful supplying restaurant recommendations, I suggest you try Auberge de la Madelaine, couple of km drive, lovely rustic restaurant, only a couple of menu choices but terrific food.
The only possible thing to consider is that as there is no air conditioning, you might find the nights a bit hot at the height of summer. Although close to the road, you can leave the windows open as only occasional farm traffic, but if the mozzies love you, use repellent! This would make a fabulous holiday home for a couple of families or group of friends. Or indeed if you can run to it, as a couple!
