My husband flew us to Salt Spring Island by seaplane to celebrate a special anniversary as a surprise to me. I was so impressed with everything. We were greeted at the dock by a lovely young gentleman named Tai who gave us a brief tour before bringing us to Hastings House.
We stayed in the beautiful Post Cottage which offered a personalized welcome and a congratulations basket. Our own private hideaway on the most beautiful grounds landscaped with artistically planted flowerbeds and mature fruit trees. We had several garden strolls… the vivid colours and aromas added to the wonderful aesthetic experience. It was so comfortable... it felt like home but even better because of the 5 star service. Everyone was friendly and always smiling. You could tell they wanted nothing more than to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
A deer and her young ones showed up outside our windows every evening. We slept so contentedly every night. Hot muffins delivered discreetly by hamper to our front door in the morning. Afternoon tea with relaxation on the patio overlooking the harbour along with the gentle breeze and the sea air. They even prepared a picnic lunch for us which we found the perfect spot to enjoy on the grounds. Delicious dinners with the freshest ingredients picked from their own garden along with impeccable presentation and service. My mouth waters to think of that chocolate pate. A romantic weekend would not be complete without spa treatments. We walked away from those massages so completely relaxed.
For those who like to explore, there’s a path just outside the dining area that leads to a short walk to town. We also rented scooters just around the corner and explored the island even further.
My husband must have done his homework, because he sure picked well with this place! This had to be one of my most memorable experiences as it encompassed every romantic detail. It sure was hard to leave… I really hope we can come back!!!

The Andrew Harper guide has never let us down. Hastings House is a unique and beautiful spot. One could argue that our cottage was dated, but it was a spacious, and after all it is supposed to be a country house environment. Be forewarned, some of the cottages are an uphill trek, but it scored well on our Fit Bits. The views of the Harbor are spectacular and you are close enough to town to walk, but far enough away to have escaped most reality.
The grounds are beautiful, flowers everywhere, and you can tour the garden which is the source of most of your dinner!

It was truly a pleasure reading your comments and I'm very glad that you had time to stroll through our wonderful gardens and grounds.

Our hotel is somewhat unique in having the ability to grow much of our own produce on-site, and then serve it in our restaurant, usually on the same day it is picked! And of course, all our produce is non-GMO, and grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Thank you very much for taking time to share your experiences here, and for mentioning some of the many fine qualities that we enjoy most, here at Hastings House.

Best wishes,
Ronald

The food was delicious, but the service was outstanding! A huge thank you to John our waiter for the evening. Just so sweet of you to rush out to pick Black berries for me when you found out that it was the only thing I could have for a dessert.

Cheers!

You saved us!
Thank you for having us on short notice when our Trip Advisor host cancelled our other reservation unexpectedly and without any attempt to contact us. The difference of a professionally run hotel was greatly appreciated.

What a perfect upgrade from where we had originally found. The Churchill cottage was a perfect spot for our stay during my Aunt's 65th birthday celebrations. Thank you for being dog friendly too for our large dog Rupert.

From the lovely host who welcomed us and gave a tour of the grounds and buildings, to the baked goods at our door every morning. We loved the gardens and our lunch on the last day. Such a wonderful spot, we will most definitely be back.
