We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kailas. We travelled here from Mumbai (7 hours on the train. 2AC seats which were fine. Very interesting journey. Just over INR 1000 for 2 of us!). We had a cave facing cottage and loved sitting on the verandah watching the wide variety of birds.. We ate breakfast and supper in the restaurant and loved the food. ( Bought fruit to eat at lunchtime) The staff were very helpful and friendly. It is an easy walk to the caves which are absolutely amazing. We opted to get a car to drive us to Ajanta for the day and the hotel organised that for us. It was nice to return to our cottage at the end of the day. I imagine that the cottages near the busy road would be noisy but our cottage was fine. This is not a posh hotel but we recommend it wholeheartedly.

Avoid this place.

I booked a group to stay here, but they refused to give me a receipt for this, which makes me think they up to no good, and not properly regulated. Furthermore they have ignored my email requests.

Whilst the Ellora caves are themselves amazing, the area outside them, where this hotel is located, is quite a tourist trap, so i'd suggest a day trip rather than stay overnight.

Room Tip: I would avoid this place personally.

Nice hotel, friendly staff and great location. Enjoyed the two days I stayed here. Very convenient as you can see the caves as they open, walk around till you tire and come back till the afternoon sun recedes to complete your trip at leisure

I read some reviews that were not good and was a bit unsure if i sould book it or take one in aurangabad and drive to the caves in the morning. I was very relieved when we arrived and everything was good! The staff is very nice! The owner very friendly! It has a cute garden that unforrunately nobody uses cause there is no bar! It faces to the caves and if they would put some charming lights and provide service as a bar or even food options it would be amazing... But maybe it's not used because it's winter!? The rooms are clean and have everything we needed! The beds are very comfortable! So everyone who gave very bad reviews must have very high standards! I think it's very good for the price-it's walking distance from the caves! That's also a big plus!

The location couldn't be better — just a very short walk from the gates leading to the entirely rock-cut Kailas temple, No. 16, one of the planet's most amazing feats of construction (the many other temples are also very, very impressive) – reminiscent of the Manohara at Borobudur. The hotel is comfortable and functional, with a beautiful and well-kept garden that has a direct view across to the hills and temples of this World Heritage site. Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room, unlimited hot water for the shower, playful long-tailed monkeys, a good breakfast. Totally recommended.
