I drove by this restaurants for years not thinking anything of it. Yesterday a business associate invited me to lunch and we ended up in La Esquina del Lechón (translates to the Roasted Pork Corner). What a revelation - nicely appointed, clean, and efficiently run dining room.
Parking is a pain, which is a good sign. The place was packed - as most well run Cuban restaurants, they have very efficient service, so the wait for a table, if any, is rather short. Do stick around though - as the name implies, Lechón or pork is the specialty, but they have a rather extensive Cuban cuisine menu, including sandwiches.
I opted for the regular sized Pan con Lechón, or shredded pork with bread and onions, and a side of mariquitas (plantain chips). I was blown away - the bread (a soft version of the hard crusted Cuban bread) was excellent and the meat perfectly seasoned and the appropriate amount. They do have a large version which is basically twice the size of the regular - I am 6Ft and 180lbs - I could hardly finish the reg size.
If you find yourself in West Miami / Doral / Medley - this is your spot for lunch.
