We spent three nights here during March whilst on a tour of Kerala. Having stayed at the Coconut Lagoon and Poovar Island previously and not liking either of these we settled on the Zuri. This was a good choice as we had a wonderful stay. The resort was peaceful so if you are looking for action this is not the place to go but if you want a relaxed & friendly atmosphere & some excellent food then book this hotel!

We ate in the fish restaurant one night which we loved (be warned it is a little on the expensive side but well worth it). We also had some treatments in the spa which again I would highly recommend, although you should book in advance to ensure they can fit you in.

I would not hesitate to return to the Zuri again on any future trip to Kerala. When asked by the Manager on our departure if we had enjoyed our stay and if there was anything they could improve on, I actually couldn't think of one thing I hadn't been totally satisfied with!

Splurged for our 2 night stay and booked the Presidential Pool Villa.

THE ROOM:- The decor and the design of the Villa is great. Bathroom has an option of a tub, shower stall and an open shower with some great plants in a corner. One more sizeable bathroom is near the entrance which makes it convinient if one has kids as the living area can be cordon off with a sliding door as a partition between the living room and the bed room. It's a very thoughtful concept.

THE PRIVATE POOL - Is a significant 12 ft X 20 ft and 4 ft deep. Clean, with a 4 jets and a seating around to relax. The absolute amazing part is that the pool view is the expanse of the lake. It's simply beautiful. The only downside like someone has mentioned is the frequency of the boats that pass by from pretty close. We weren't really bothered by it as we didn't find people trying to peer. There is no barrier around the pool,it is only shrubs, palms and plants that are flanked around for privacy. This somehow is accessible to others as there is small garden patch on either side and people can walk in. We had a couple who did but quickly retracted when they saw us in the pool. So its not really PRIVATE.

THE PROPERTY- Expansive and beautifully landscaped. Automatically relaxes as you enter.

FOOD - Is a plenty for the breakfast buffet with some good south indian variety. Delicious and service perfect.

ACTIVITIES- Paddle boats and cycles available and in good condition. The lagoon which is a part of the property is lovely. Am sure the cottages facing the lagoon are equally lovely.

SPA- Unfortunately didn't get time to experience the spa but it is one of the biggest they say and relaxing just as you walk in.

SERVICE- We encountered some tropical harmless creatures in our room but our concerns were looked after timely and efficiently.

There is a lot around and one isn't stuck as you can drive out and go the market.
The Zuri is envigorating!! If you can afford it do opt for the Presidential Pool Villas.

We would definitely return.

we had booked 5 deluxe rooms and 1 pool villa for our stay of 3nights and 4 days. believe me it was so refreshing, right from arrival to check-in to the room to the first wow of the resort when we saw, the food, the staff, evening entertainment. I mean it was totally awesome experience for us. for my daughter she had a ball of a time, with huge lawns, boating & kidszone. she loved.
The best room of the trip the pool villa, can't say much...u got to stay here to know more.

We chose to stay at this resort for two days at the end of a three week trip to India. This resort was chosen with the help of a friend who lives in the nearby city of Kochi.

It took us about 2 hours drive from Kochi in a car. There was work being done on a bridge that reduced it to one lane, which delayed our arrival. Upon arrival, the seemed to be in a bit of a remote location (I later learned that to do any type of touristic “shopping”, one would have to travel approx 15 km.) However, the location seemed to be a nice one, right on the lake. We were greeted in the lobby by a very polite staff, and were offered cold towels (as it was hot and humid). We were also greeted by the resort general manager, Mr. Michael S., who very graciously welcomed us. We were early (check in time is 3, and we arrived closer to noon), so they politely told us that our room would take some time to be ready, and it only was about 30 mins until we were escorted to our room.
The grounds are huge, and so all transport of luggage, etc is done by golfcart. We were given a room with a nice view of their own, “small lake”, which was just across the way from the “big lake”.
The room was very pleasant and spacious (we had a cottage). The washroom was huge, with a separate tub and separate shower, and one of the added features was a very private outdoor shower.
All of the amenities were up to international standards. Water pressure was good in the washroom. Bed was comfortable and large. We had asked for a baby cot, and it was provided after some reminding to the front desk. The power did go off multiple times each afternoon, but was back on within 1-2 minutes.
It turned out that, for the 48 hours that we were at the resort, we actually did not leave the grounds. The main restaurant was nicely air conditioned, and we ate there regularly. They were particularly good about helping to make sure that we had food that our 13 month old could eat. We had multiple meals in this restaurant, and the food was always good. The selection was great, with both Indian and non-Indian choices at every meal. The bar lounge had nice views of the lake as I enjoyed a drink, and the other restaurant offered some nice seafood selection. There was also a billiard room which included some comfortable sitting areas and a carrom board.
The grounds are very well manicured. There was constant attention to the trees and foliage by gardeners. One could also notice that there were security guards throughout the complex, who also would be able to handle guest requests, and would even run and get you an umbrella in the event of a sudden downpour.
They have an amphitheater, and there are supposed to be nightly performances. However, given that there was rain for both nights we were there, the performances were moved into the covered but outdoor area of the restaurant. This was a nice treat for all of us, and made what would have been an otherwise quiet and somewhat boring evening enjoyable.
We looked into a number of the activities, but the only ones in which we participated were the afternoon tea at 4:30, and the 1 hour lake boat cruise at 5:30. Our boat cruise was cut short (ended after about 20 mins) due to a sudden heavy rain and thunderstorm, and the resort did not charge us the usual fee, which I thought was very nice.
My wife took advantage of the spa services. This is her review of her experience:

“I had a back, neck and spine massage followed by a hydrotherapy bath. My massage was firm just the way I like it, but the communication with my masseuse could have been better. She seemed to stick to a particular routine rather than taking into consideration what the customer was saying (I told her to concentrate on certain parts of my back but this did not seem to have much affect). There was also some extreme heat applied during the treatment which was at times too much for me, but, again, the masseuse seemed to stick with her routine. The hydro bath was a nice way to end my spa experience, but it was nothing outstanding. I enjoyed the other facilities such as the sauna and the products I purchased were outstanding. My only other piece of advice is that the resort could be more careful with the magazine selection—I saw an industry magazine about restaurant hygiene that kind of took away from the relaxing experience. However, definitely glad I went to the spa.”

The best thing about this resort was the staff. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, and especially to entertain and please our 13 month old. They also made sure that my wife and I were comfortable as well at the same time. They even went so far as to hold the little one for some time during meals, so that we could have a few minutes to enjoy our meals. Even some of the kitchen staff came out to say hello to us and to play with our daughter. I dare say that she was the most popular guest of the 2 days that we were there (at least, we were made to feel that way).

We did have one issue (which involved three different instance of the same problem), which I brought to the attention of both Mr. Praveen W. (front lobby manager) and to Mr. Michael S (General Manager). I won’t get into the details of the issue, but we all agreed that it should never have happened. They took action on the issue, and duly apologized to us for the inconvenience. They also agreed that they had been outside of their normal protocols due to some internal issues, and this should not have happened. While it should never have gotten to the third instance, I was satisfied with their response and the explanation (and apology). As Mr. Michael S is fond of saying: “If at first you don’t succeed….”

Overall, this was a great experience at the Zuri resort. The prices were competitive, and this was an international level resort. Some people here on trip advisor have complained that this is not an “Indian” resort. Well, the reality of it is that if you stay in a resort of this caliber and price, it’s not going to reflect the real India. This resort does a great job of mixing an international standard of resort experience with the Indian brand of hospitality and service. It was the right experience for my family and I after three weeks of traveling all around India. If you are looking for a nice, quiet resort experience in the backwaters area, Zuri is a great choice.

So nice to hear from you and the time we spent together. Yes your young baby did steal the show on resort and our pleasure to assist so you both had time to relax. The team here will always strive to “succeed”, as they found it a pleasure to have you as our guest. In the back waters it’s nice to “cheat” the hours of time and stay longer in gods own country.
