“Dream of an Andalucian retreat”
Reviewed 4 December 2012 for a stay in August 2011

Located in a very quiet little hamlet opposite the dreamy Moorish-style town of Vejer de la Frontera, this is an ideal getaway for a family or friends. It's extremely well-equipped and Gary and his wife left fruit, bread, manchego cheese and other treats ready in the fridge.

The grounds are on three levels, with an extra room on its own level. There are terraced gardens filled with bougainvillea and many other gorgeous flowers, and several fruit trees. The pool has a lovely fountain that gurgles away, if you find the switch. During the day the pool area is a great suntrap (with shade!). During the night you can swim with pool lights and admire the shining white roofs and spires of the town on the other side of the ravine.

As well as a TV in the living room, the twin bedroom has a TV/DVD player, so kids can be entertained in the evening while grown ups sip wine. If Gary added a cocktail shaker to the kitchen equipment, it would be even better. There's a good collection of paperbacks and DVDs of classic movies so no need to carry extra. There's plenty of privacy, with each level being sheltered from the others. There's even a third outdoor dining area around the front of the villa - lovely at night.

If you have small children, you'll need to keep them extremely well supervised because of the stairs and the fact that you can't see the pool level very well from the main house. It's best for families with babes in arms, or older kids who can swim independently, or for a group of adult friends.

We spent a lovely week enjoying mornings in the villa, breakfasting on the terrace and a swim and lounge by the lovely pool afterwards. Afternoons were at the nearby beaches, around 15-25 minutes drive away. Plenty of parking and beach shopping, these are pleasant family beaches with cafes and mini supermarkets, so no need to take food, but if you do, the villa has beach parasols and a cooler. A military area nearby (Barbate) opens its totally unspoilt beaches during July-Sep - perfect for kite surfing and rural, less crowded beaches - but no facilities, so take the picnic!

Liked best: Affordable luxury in a less-explored part of Andalucia
Liked least: Some of the nearby towns aren't great for driving around - very narrow old road, but OK if you keep your wits.

“Another fantastic week of luxury in beautiful Andalucia”
Reviewed 3 December 2012 for a stay in August 2011

The flea market in Vejer was great fun.

Advantage Cars from Malaga airport were good. I think we must have tried most of the firms from there over the last decade, and I reckon they were best yet in terms of service, online price and the quality of the car. Would recommend.

Flood lit swimming in the pool at Casa Lucia was great. The size of the pool, plus the warmth created by running water over the water feature (I assume that is how it happens) make Casa Lucia hard to beat.

Final comment, if your Spanish is as poor as mine it can be reassuring to have Gary on hand just in case.

Management Response
7 Dec 2012
Thanks for your feedback, glad you enjoyed your second holiday in Casa Lucia as much as your first. Yes, wifi will be in place before Easter 2013. Also new are 6 sunbeds for pool terrace and new 100% cotton bedding in Master Bedroom along with a new sofa and comfy armchair for the living-dining room. Have also expanded the terracing and created a lovely shady spot under the Avocado Tree.

“Casa Lucia is one of the most relaxing places we have ever stayed - in fact we have now been to stay there 3 times!”

My husband & I have stayed in Santa Lucia at Gary's property 3 times over the last few years. We believe it's the ideal place to completely relax and recharge the batteries. The house itself is perfect for a couple and it has everything you could possibly need. Even the 2 lovely ladies who come in to clean the house during the week are an absolute delight. It's location is ideal with 2 really good restaurants on the doorstep just a few minutes walk away and there are plenty other good restaurants in the hilltop village of Vejer or in the surrounding countryside. We are never ones to return to the same place twice as a rule but we've come to depend on this little slice of heaven as a must have in our holiday year!

“Couldn't be better”

We have stayed in many villas in Spain over the years, and have been regular visitors to the Vejer and Costa de la Luz areas. Many of the villas we've stayed in have been great - but none quite so good as Casa Lucia. It has a genuine 'wow' factor.

It is truly a place where you have real privacy as soon as you arrive. The gardens are so peaceful and the ever changing views of Vejer and the surrounding countryside are wonderful. The house itself is very well equipped, and the pool level and gardens are wonderful.

Santa Lucia itself is very small, but there are two good restaurants a couple of minutes' walk away. Vejer is a few minutes' drive, and the coast (with the best beaches in Spain) not much further. Trips to Vejer, Conil, La Palma and Cadiz are a must.

The owner, Gary, is really helpful and happy to recommend loca places to eat and visit. Extremely highly recommended!

“This is just a stunning place-don't miss out”

We stayed in early May, have lost count of the number of times we have used this property but is around ten-that should tell you all yuo need to know!! The location is superb, Santa Lucia is an " osais" of peace and tranquililty, our time laying by the pool are some of the best in our life. There are so many amazing beaches near by, Costa del Luz is just an amazing and wonderful strech of endless sand, we have walked for miles. There are so many other attractions just a short drive away. Gary offers inobtrusive support and is always there if you need him. We will make many more visits before we hang up our shorts for the last time !! Don't miss out on this magical place.
